INTEL HAS developed a new line of motherboards designed to automatically wake from sleep mode to perform certain tasks, such as answering incoming calls or resuming a download. According to Intel spokesman George Alfs, the technology behind the “remote wake” motherboards was originally conceived to allow network managers quick access to PC updates. The first four Intel motherboards with the remote wake capability are scheduled to ship over the next month. The new boards are designated for desktop computers and will require an Internet connection via Ethernet cable – as Wi-Fi is currently incapable of functioning in sleep mode. A desktop PC typically consumes more than 60 watts of power....
