Wink HD 3870 x2 - In The House - Quick Review

While going AWOL, I 'accidentally' passed my favourite mall here in Bangkok - Pantip Plaza and staring out with those puppy dog eyes were the new HD 3870 X2, several actually, so how could I refuse a Sapphire

Here is a taste of the this new GPU, but due to travel commitments will try to show some results from the common suite of benchies. However, if there is something anyone wishes tried out, post away and we'll try to accomodate as best we can.

Platform setup:

Abit IP35-Pro - stock
QX9650 @ 340x9
2x 1Gb Ballistic PC2-8500
Silverstone OP1000
Vapochill LS [AC] - stock
Ambient temps 29C (84F)
XP Pro SP2
ATI driver 8.1 Download
Stock application and driver settings with no tweaks

EDIT:

BIOS File Attached is the Default BIOS for both cores 0 & 1 ... Note that you will need to change the filename to .rar as it is compressed.
Attached Files
File Type: xls Sapphire 3870X2 Default BIOS .xls (65.1 KB, 48 views)

Re: HD 3870 x2 - Pictures

Some Quick Pictures of the card, these are thumbnails (2200x1700) ... apologies for the low quality, trying to help your bandwidth

Interesting is the DIP switch on the back of the board - see pic 3.

TIM is used nearly everywhere a component touches something metal, even SMDs under the X-brace.

Now I have been looking forward to these and the performance. Thanks for sharing NCSA CF mode with a couple of these would be interesting also

Were you benching with any tweaks at all, LOD?

No worries ... those runs were all at stock, so no LOD - nothing.

Issues seem to be a locked core at 860, same as the 3870 lock issue which was resolved with a new BIOS and the BIOS files are different sizes 43Kb and 62Kb for ID 0 & 1 as saved by ATIFLash... will have a look in these time permitting.
