Re: Microsoft Microcode Reliability Update for Windows

If you use RyanVM's update pack for WinXP Pro SP2 for slipstreaming, his latest pack includes this update http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html. Info http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4905

Re: Microsoft Microcode Reliability Update for Windows

I was aware of this a few days ago... I'm curious as to what you found interesting? Is it that they released an update so late and unexpectedly or is there something else?

Re: Microsoft Microcode Reliability Update for Windows

Just that it's interesting there was a need for such patch

From http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4905
Added KB936357 Hotfix. Replaces KB885626 Hotfix
KB885626

Your computer stops responding when you restart to complete the installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

SUMMARY
This article describes how to resolve an issue where your computer stops responding (hangs) when you restart to complete the installation of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. This issue occurs on a limited number of systems that use a version of basic input/output system (BIOS) that does not have production support for Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron D processors based on the Prescott C-0 stepping.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
• Your computer uses an Intel Pentium 4 or Intel Celeron D processor that is based on Prescott C-0 processor stepping.
• Your computer has a BIOS version that is out of specification.

Note A BIOS version that is out of specification does not provide support for the processor that is installed on your computer.

MORE INFORMATION
Windows XP can provide a processor stepping-specific update that will run independently of the BIOS to provide support for the installed processor. If an operating system cannot load the Intel-provided production support update for a processor, you may experience stop errors or startup failures. In this case, the BIOS does not provide the required production support, and the Intel-provided production support update that is provided in Windows XP causes the system to stop responding.
Hmmmm

Re: Microsoft Microcode Reliability Update for Windows

I installed this yestetrday myself. I saw this info on another forum realting to my Gigabyte board.

So far for me i cant see/notice anydifference. The only thing is i did a wPrime 32M run before it and then a run after the reboot and scored .200 less. All things were equal in both runs, but i have seen little variances like that before anyway.

I would just like to know why MS realesed it so late as i read somewhere it was known a mth or so ago.
