E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

In a strange coincidence, I received my Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 'G0' stepping cpus yesterday which is the same day Intel officially lifted the NDA on the E6x50 series cpus. E6750 'G0' stepping with L710A438 batch - Malaysia plant - week 10, 2007.

(click image for close up of IHS)

E6x50 vs E6x00

From what I have read and seen, the only difference these E6x50 have from their older siblings, E6x00 is that E6x50 have:
  • Higher default front side bus speed of 1333Mhz versus 1067Mhz.
  • Inclusion of TXT - Intel Trusted Execution Technology to protect sensitive information from software related attacks. Exception being the E6540 cpu which is same as E6550 but without TXT.
Other than those 2 new features, the still has the same shared 4MB L2 cache. Reviews popping up on the internet, show E6750 has around 1-2% advantage over E6700 at default speeds due to the higher front side bus speed 8x333FSB vs 10x266FSB. But this higher default front side bus speed, also translates into slighty higher idle or EIST enabled idle speed temps.

System
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 ES - L710A438 G0
  • Corsair Nautilus 500 3/8" ID
  • Asus P5K Deluxe 0311 bios
  • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
  • 2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix dual channel kit in black dimm slots
  • 74GB WD Raptor 8MB on SATA 2 port
  • Pioneer DVR-08 Burner
  • Sony FDD
  • 1KW PCP&C SLI psu
  • WinXP Pro SP2

We've heard of E6850/E6550 'G0' ES samples doing awesome overclocks of 3.6ghz at stock vcore or high 540-550+ FSB. But there also seems to be 'G0' steppings that aren't as good and have FSB walls around 475-495FSB (could be motherboard/bios limit ? ).

This E6750 'G0' I'm testing is one of those more average ones. This E6750 'G0' stepping seems to behave like my Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 L627A872 cpu on Asus P5K Deluxe maxing out FSB around 490-495FSB (bumping CPU PLL volts allowed 500FSB to just get in) with similar vcore to clock speed points at 3600Mhz at 1.43-1.45v and 3800Mhz at 1.5-1.55v and both run very cool even with high vcore.

The E6750 'G0' does run exceptionally colder though. With PECI enabled in bios, the E6750 as reported by AI Suite is running cooler and is within 4-8C of coretemp 0.94 reported temps. With PECI disabled, it's reported in AI Suite to be 10-12C hotter than coretemp 0.94 reported temps.

Re: E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

E6750 @3840-3920Mhz - 8x480FSB-490FSB 1:1

Maxing out the FSB on E6750 'G0' seems to be around 490FSB stable and 495FSB i can probably pull off with some tweaking.

Super Pi 32M

3840Mhz - 8x480FSB 1:1 = 12m 47.032s
3920Mhz - 8x490FSB 1:1 = 12m 31.187s

Re: E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

E6750 @3920Mhz - 8x490FSB 4:5

Now let's see what using 4:5 memory divider can bring in Super Pi 1M & 32M

Everest Ultimate 4.00.1033 Bandwidth

Not bad for loose memory timings @612Mhz 5-5-4-5. Still bit slower clock for clock than tighter timings @8x488FSB 5:6 with 585mhz 4-4-4-9 with my Q6600 here.

Re: E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix @665.8Mhz 5-6-5-9

Thought I'd loosen up the memory timings to 5-6-5-9 and see how far I can go at 2.55v vdimm max with my 2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix dual channel kit in black dimm slots. Swapped in 92x38mm Delta 120cfm fan to cool the memory via a rheobus fan controller

Here's where I ended up @665.8Mhz 5-6-5-9 6-35-8-6-8 at 2.55v which is the highest memory frequency I've done to complete Super Pi 32M on any motherboard. Previous best was @650mhz 5-5-5-18 on Asus 680i Striker Extreme with 2x1GB OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC at 2.550v.

Re: E6750 'G0' 8x333FSB + Asus P5K Deluxe

Quest to hit 4002Mhz

Found i could memtest86+ v1.70 if i pushed the CPU PLL voltage in bios from 1.6v to 1.8v (max). Also meant I could squeeze out a bit more FSB with 8x493FSB boot from bios into windows and setFSB bump from 493FSB to 500FSB

@8x493FSB at 1.6375v bios set

@498FSB at 1.6375v bios set

@500FSB at 1.6375v bios set
