Video Card Upgrade

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to better handle the newer games that are out and coming out. However, my interest is to be ready but it does not need to be a direct x 10 card. Something that does the job, doesn't need to be flashy, more like a nice workhorse card that can chew it up and keep rocking but isn't insanely expensive!! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

P.S Oh by the way, I'm currently running an ATI X600. I have no qualms about switching to Nvidia anymore.

Re: Video Card Upgrade

Some cards to consider in order of price & performance:

- 7300GT (DDR3 versions)
- 7600GT (DDR3 versions)
- 7900GS

I personally would go for the 7900GS as it offers the best bang for buck, especially when overclocked & volt modded (if you ever plan to in future for that bit more oomph when needed).

If you are patient, Nvidia's lower and midstream 8600 series will be out soon and will offer you DirectX 10 compatibility just in case you change your mind and want to be a bit more futureproofed.

Re: Video Card Upgrade

I also agree the 7900GS is the best bang for buck card ATM

Check out the StaticICE current pricing

Re: Video Card Upgrade

April 17th is when the mid and low range DX10 cards are released by Nvidia. I would wait for them. The 8500GT would probably be the best card for price/performance

I've got a X1950GT coming in the post (fingers crossed for tomorrow) which I will be doing some testing with. It will be mainly overclocking and 3DMark benchies.

Re: Video Card Upgrade

I've just stepped up from

XFX 7950GT 570m Extreme - Avg: 42.350 - Min: 18 - Max: 67

EVGA 8800GTS 640mb ACS3 - Avg: 81.873 - Min: 0 - Max: 136

Thats in NFS Carbon.
Just can't be assed doing any benching, but I'm well happy
