Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI preview results

Just a preview for now until I figure out how Q6600 Kentsfield performs on Asus 680i Striker Extreme

Seems Asus 680i Striker Extreme still has an FSB limit like all 680i boards when it comes to Kentsfield. Although it seems Asus 680i Striker Extreme does a bit better on FSB front than other 680i boards.

H20 setup:
Swiftech Apogee -> Radiical Triple fan single pass radiator -> T line -> Swiftech MCP655 @12.25v -> Swiftech Apogee
System:
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 QUPT B3 Step 7
  • CPU only H20 cooled - Swiftech Apogee/Radiical Triple Single Pass/MCP655@12.25v Kayl Custom 100W Psu
  • 2x 640MB Gainward 8800GTS SLI
  • Asus 680i Striker Extreme rev1.0 0402 bios
  • 2x1GB OCZ PC8000 Titanium AlphaVX2
  • 1x 160GB Seagate 7200.7 SATA NCQ on SATA2 port
  • Pioneer DVR-05 DVD Burner
  • 600W OCZ EvoStream Modular Power supply

Seems 336-342FSB is where my Q6600 Kentsfield is for max FSB with 0402 bios.

Excuse the image dimensions for screenshot @13xx X 11xx but only 82-90KB in size

Seems raising CPU VTT from 1.4v to 1.5v helped but only in conjunction with raising NB volts from 1.55v to 1.65v. 345FSB seems fine so far.

Some low cpu clocked 1T memory clocking Super Pi times

Seems although I set 848.1mhz real memory clock in bios = 424mhz, cpuz in windows reports 416mhz. So I ran with it as is and will redo 424mhz later.

Re: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI preview results

Seems my 2GB OCZ PC8000 Titantium Alpha VX2 likes CAS4 better than CAS3. 3-3-3-4 1T can get me to around 428mhz at 2.45v but 4-3-3-4 and 4-4-3-4 1T can get me to around 444mhz at lower vdimm of 2.4v. 32M time for 416mhz 3-3-3-4 1T vs 444mhz 4-4-3-4 1T at same advance timings for 4-1-6-8-22 has 444mhz 4-4-3-4 1T only 0.859 seconds slower

Re: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI preview results

Well a Yoxxy informed me that using his Asus striker and kentsfield managed 380FSB by raising CPU VTT to 1.55v volts.. so I'm testing it now...

raising from 1.4v to 1.5v i've managed to be able to consistently boot into memtest at 345FSB compared to 336-342FSB... so who knows where I'll end up at

Updated above 3rd post with 345FSB tests.

Eva try the 0701 bios, it has cpu microcode update for quad core cpu's and a few other fixes plus vdroop isn't any where near as bad as 0402 bios..

Re: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI preview results

0701 bios has a vcore inconsistency bug sometimes fixes itself at 1.37v or 1.32v regardless of vcore set 0402 still best for me in terms of vcore consistency even if it undervolts from what is set!
