Re: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI motherboard Results

Ah thanks to lowdog, I was curious about what's underneath my striker's chipset in terms of TIM. So I took a peek under and below is what I found.

I decided to use a Thermalright HR-05 chipset cooler for northbridge and Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II for southbridge (yes fits fine and allows 8800GTS SLI and even for a length PCI-E based SATA raid controller in middle PCI-E slot if need to it seems).

The memory you see is Teamgroup 6400C3 D9GMH since i moved my OCZ PC8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 modules over to my DFI ICFX3200 RD600 system.

The last time to see the stock heatpipes.. bye bye and so long

What's underneath, looks like 2x TIMs there the normal grey pad and white paste too ??

Only the white paste made it's way to the northbridge and southbridge chipset cores it seems. 680i chipset is week 36, 2006 while southbridge is week 40, 2006 dated.

Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II on southbridge with clearance for 2x 8800GTS SLI

Thermalright HR-05 on northbridge with Coolermaster 70x25mm 0.12A fan

And Swiftech MC14 copper ramsinks on mosfets

Swiftech Apogee installed...

Temperatures on NB for MB temp on PC Probe2 dropped maybe 2-5C lower. Southbridge thermal probe = OPT3 dropped 6-8C.

Ha, you'll find the board should run better now that you have gotten rid of that POS heatpipe. Interesting about the white tim, mine had none other than the grey stuff.

Are the 8800GTS card single slot coolers??, just wondering about the Thermaltake cooler, whether it would work with a 8800GTX???

You should find that you may be able to run your same oc now with some volt drops.........more playing for you now.

Re: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI motherboard Results

Made sure to reconnect power to dvd-rom after you removed heatpipes ? Tried power down/clear cmos overnight ? remove power from dvd-rom and reconnect ? ensure boot priority is correctly set and the device selected ?

btw, 8800GTS are double slot like 8800GTX just shorter.. TT ESII might not fit for 8800GTX due to the mounting post shown here http://i4memory.com/reviewimages/mot...ttes2_034.html

Re: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme SLI motherboard Results

I dunno

Yeah power was connected to DVD ROM, it's getting power, can open and close but in bios main screen it shows nothing connected to primary IDE ???? and in windows no DVD ROM shows up. I think Sandra is showing IDE/PCI bus not enabled (something like that)

Wonder if it happened when I inadvertantly forgot to lock the SPP<->MCP frequency to 200 and left it on auto when I overclocked.....but how would that kill the onchip IDE controler
