Too many caps near the socket...
I think you'll notice that MANY LGA boards use very low-profie caps near the socket. They almost never interfere with HSF's, Waterblocks or evaps, so there really hasn't been an issue.

Look at a side on view of an LGA board with caps that close to the socket, and add on the height of the IHS on P4's and you'll realise why

it's an issue on most 975x LGA775 boards though the cap is still taller than cpu socket on Asus, DFI, Gigabyte and other 975x boards

Kayl removed the caps and resoldered them on Asus P5WD2-E further away from the cpu socket

That DFI board doesn't have any caps near the socket. Then again its not an intel chipset...

Neither board is available in AU as yet and would probably cost at least a gonad or two

I am surprised we are not seeing a lot more boards using digital pwm

I loved the old Asus P3 "Black Pearl" boards. The board was all black with black slots. A few highlights, like the chipset heatsink, where nickel chrome.

Arrrrr such fond memories, I still have an Abit IT7 2 Ver2 (arguably the best board ever made) with a 1.8a that has been running @ 2.4GHz since new
