Talking Opteron 144 - CABYE 0536 GPMW s939 results

Doing some prelim memtest overclocking with 2x 256MB Gskill PC4400LE TCCD 431 on these new cpus.

I do this basically for every new cpu I get to get so as to have an idea of how the cpu performs as it's upper ceiling first. Then do windows stability tests with these results as a guide as what the cpu can't do above these limits heh

Opteron 144 CABYE 0536 GPMW Water cooled
DFI NF4 UT SLI-DR R.AB0 623-2BTA Official bios
1x BFG 7800GTX 81.82 beta drivers
4x 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII Raid 0
1x 250GB Maxtor Maxline Plus II PATA
Pioneer DVD Burner
Floppy drive
650W Silverstone SLI PSU


WinXP Pro SP2
NF4 6.53WHQL chipset drivers





so far memtest looks like this all 1:1 mem/cpu

AUTO Vcore = 2826mhz
1.425v = 2835mhz
1.45v = 2880mhz - 6 full loops
1.475v = 2906mhz 6 loops so far (this is 9x323mhz 2.5-4-3-7 which is the known limit of the ram on FX-57 so interesting to see how much higher it can go cpu and mem wise from here)

1.475v = 2926mhz running memtest so far at 9x325mhz 2.5-4-4-8 so far okay

1.50v = 2944mhz 9x327mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.9v vdimm = test #6 errors - cpu related... so guess this is the point where more vcore is needed heh - but will try 1.50v but up vdimm to 2.95v first to see if it's mem before raising vcore

1.50v = 2944mhz 9x327mhz 2.5-4-4-8 but with 2.95v vdimm passed test #6 no errors, so was vdimm not vcore - so far 2 full loops error free

1.50V = 2961mhz 9x329mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v so far memtesting okay passed 1st full loop, but 2nd loop at test #8 memtest error, so next stop 1.525v vcore to see if it's vcore of mem/vdimm

1.525v = 2961mhz 9x329mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v passed 1 standard loop and a half

1.525v = 2980mhz 9x331mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v booted into memtest and running up to test #5/6 errors now so more vdimm or vcore ?

1.525v = 2980mhz 9x331mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.98v vdimm same test #5/6 errors, so guess time to run 180 mem divider

With 180 divider

Max Async = AUTO
DDRAM Response = Normal
Preamble = AUTO


1.525v = 2980mhz with 9x331HTT with 180 divider mem @298mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v standard loop done 2 fine so far

1.525v = 2997mhz 9x333HTT with 180 divider mem @299mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v hung before memtest load

1.55v = 2997mhz 9x333HTT with 180 divider mem @299mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v running memtest passed standard full loop with no probs

1.55v = 3015mhz 9x335HTT with 180 divider mem @301mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v so far okay until test #6 resulted in errors.. most likely vcore here heh

1.55v + 4% (1.57v) = 3015mhz 9x335HTT with 180 divider mem @301mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v passed the test #6 section error free (so it was vcore) and now done 2 standard full passes error free

1.55 + 4% (1.57) = 3033mhz 9x337HTT with 180 divider mem @303mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v - froze at 87% of test #5 1st pass

1.475 + 10% (1.59) = 3033mhz 9x337HTT with 180 divider mem @303mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v - passed the test #5 section so yes it was vcore causing test #5 to freeze at 1.57v but froze 79% into 1st pass of test #8 - seems we're coming close to ideal 1.6-1.62v for AMD64s heh

1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3033mhz 9x337HTT with 180 divider mem @303mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v - see if i can get a full standard loop pass this time - bios cpu temp shows 39-40C now. Still froze 79% in test #8 1st pass

Drooping HTT by 1
1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3024mhz 9x336HTT with 180 divider mem @302mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v - looping test #8 to see so far so good... guess from here on out it's larger vcore jumps heh

1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3024mhz 9x336HTT with 180 divider mem @302mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v now changed

from
Max Async = AUTO
DDRAM Response = Normal
Preamble = AUTO

to
Max Async = 9ns
DDRAM Response = Normal
Preamble = 6.5ns

and looping test #8 fine 13 PASSES no probs

Results with:

Max Async = 9ns
DDRAM Response = Normal
Preamble = 6.5ns


1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3042mhz 9x338HTT with 180 divider mem @304mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v = memtest 2 full standard passes error free

1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3061mhz 9x340HTT with 180 divider mem @306mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v = memtest running so far into 4th full standard pass

1.50v + 10% (1.62) = 3078mhz 9x342HTT with 180 divider mem @307mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v = memtest froze in 1st pass of test #5 at 24% mark - maybe more vcore needed

1.525v + 10% (1.65) = 3078mhz 9x342HTT with 180 divider mem @307mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.95v = memtest froze 41% into 1st pass of test #5 - bios cpu temp = 40C

1.525v + 10% (1.65) = 3078mhz 9x342HTT with 180 divider mem @307mhz 2.5-4-4-8 at 2.98v = increased vdimm passed test #5 section running error free so far into 4th full standard pass

Conclusion
looking back at my memtest results for both cpus, windows semi stable-max seems to be where memtest results in best cpu speed at 1.5v vcore

i.e.

opteron #1 - 1.5v best is 2944-2949mhz (memtest/max superpi 1M)
opteron #2 - 1.5v best is 2997-3007mhz (memtest/max superpi 1M)

So, the 2nd Opteron 144 is approx 50-60mhz better than 1st Opteron 144

looking good.......yeah i needed about 1.57v to boot into windows at 3GHz....looks similar to mine

that memory controller is looking good....i need to do some tweaking as my Venice was returning higher MHz

02xx i think 0267 or something like that/////so your one should be better if that theory works hehehe.....but OCers are clinching to straws and believing all sorts of voodoo **** hehehe...i say it's luck......unless you get CABNE 0530APMW stepping hehehehhe.....not that these are bad or anything
