Small invention – big impact

FIFTY YEARS AGO TO THE DAY on September 12, 1958, the microchip was born – now we’re celebrating its 50th Birthday and you’re all invited. Now found almost everywhere, in every home and workplace from devices as big as supercomputers right down to something as small as a credit card – you’d have a hard time trying to find a device without one. When the microchip was born, it looked a little different, delivered by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments the chip consisted of a strip of germanium with just one transistor and other components all glued onto the glass side....
