Thanks, alpha0ne. What you get with Conroe ?
I'll be getting a new 975X/G tomorrow so we'll all find out then

This board I have now runs the 830D no problems @ 4GHz using default everything with a max 43C using my modded Apex

Re: [benchmark] 3dmark06 scores post them here

OK kinda back on topic...

When I sold my S939 x2 3800+ and bought the P-D930, I thought I was downgrading. But it was just to tide me over till I went Conroe/Kentsfield. How wrong I was... I've finally decided to run 3DMark06 to see how behind I was with my new CPU.

My $270 Pentium D930 was an upgrade over my $450 3800+

Here are my 3DMark06 scores:
- AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ at 2.5GHz (the CPU's sweet spot). XFX 7900GT VIVO at 580/1800. 3DMark06 score: 5572
- Pentium D930 at 4.0GHz (straigh off the bat out of the box OC). XFX 7900GT VIVO at 580/1800. 3DMark06 score: 5679 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=400204

I kept the GFX card clocks the same so that I could compare CPU scores. The x2 took a lot of tweaking and stuffing around to get it stable at 2.5 whereas the P-D930 hit 4.0Ghz without any tweaking at all and on all stock voltages. The x2 was running 1.4v VCORE.

P-D930 CPU Score: 1994
AMD x2 CPU Score: 1875

Overall I'm absolutely stoked with this $270 CPU.

You must admit though that your X2 3800 clock @ only 2.5GHz is very low compared to most x2 3800 overclocks, mine benched at 2.7GHz easy and quite a few of the newer stepping x2's are clocking upto 3GHz easily

Yeh mine benched at 2.7 as well but at 1.6V VCORE. I reckon at 1.6V this D930 will do 5GHz.

EDIT: But yes my 3800+ x2 was a POS clocker.

OK so I'm gonna be a bit lazy here, what's the ideal setting with a bit of "overspill" for moi? I'm using 1066 FSB with CPU at 4GHz. RAM will clock at whatever I want it to. Logically I would go for 667 on the RAM, am I correct?
Maybe not, it depends what options for dividers your LGA775 board has. Obviously to get maximum saturation effect with MCH, go with the highest bandwidth available on you mobo AND what your DDR2 can handle with voltage options. Once you find that and can bench ok several times over, then start tighening the timings on your ram...

Re: [benchmark] 3dmark06 scores post them here

So basically if my RAM will do 800Mhz at 3-3-3-6 (which it does), I should run it at that? Unfortunately options for RAM speed stop at DDR2 800, I'm hoping in newer BIOS releases they add 1000 or 1066.

Well if 800mhz is the highest option you have at 266mhz FSB, then so be it.

So the 1:1 rule is BS when it comes to Intel OC'ing. Or 975chipset OC'ing?
