HT difference, or just runs way better on the older quad architecture.

What does your gulfie score with HT off?

EDIT - What about other benches, does it score as expected compared to the older quad?

Nope, tried with HT off, that was my first idea also, score is same.

I know that Heaven benchmark is 99.9% GPU dependent, but this is ridiculous.

Other benchmark scores are much higher, as expected.

My first thought is that NVidia's NForce790i Ultra SLI kicks Intel X58's ass.
NVidia's chipset with NVidia's GPU was my favorite combination for years, until they decided to sell rights to use SLI.

Odd, have you compared actual FPS on your X58 vs 790i? Maybe the score is somehow skewed.

Monitored with MSI AB. Didn't use any tweaks/cheats, of course. Min/max FPS and total frames are higher.

I was thinking it was a major driver improvement when I installed 270.51 and was expecting even more on 980X/R3E, but I was unpleasantly surprised.

If you have any more ideas, please tell. It would be great to find a reason behind this, so we could improve FPS on X58, if it's not solely chipset deficiency.

I'm actually a bit stumped, there's no reason I can see for that older system being faster. Slower mem, slower CPU, same card at same speed, but higher score?

Can you verify the R3E PCI-E is actually set to 16x? Tried running the card in a different slot? What are people scoring with bloomfields? Can unigine make use of 6 logical cores or does it potentially behave like LinX which is worse with GT vs bloomfields?

Yeah, PCI-E is running at 16x, checked. Even tried running GTX580 in 1st PCI-E, as I'm running it in 3rd, but no difference of course.

I don't know about Bloomfield, but I'll look around...

Let me just check something about core usage...

EDIT: No change with affinity set to 6x half-core (CPUs 0,2,4,6,8,10), EDIT2: or 4x half-core, EDIT3: or even 2x half-core.
EDIT4(and final): Only after setting affinity to one full-core (CPUs 0 & 1) application lost performance, finishing with 1042.42 points. So, no gain. No ideas. For the time being.

I spoke an hour or so with a friend that is electronics guru. He gave me some ideas and agreed that I might be on the right track.

Please read this and 5 relevant in next 7 posts.
When you loose track, conversation continues here and soon ends.

Do you know what I'm thinking?

EDIT: Looks like I'm on a right track:
