i7 980x Gulftown on LN2

This time our team was testing some i7 980X cpus, all B1 stepping 2 We don't have any A0 unlocked cpus

Finally, when we were running out of LN2 (looking for a good CPU and good motherboard) we found a good one.

Quickly tested on Asus P6X58D Premium and Rampage II Extreme.

2D

Polish record in SPI 16M (our national benchmark )

3D

Coldbug at around -160*C (Rampage II Extreme) and -150*C (P6X58D Premium), On R2E coldbootbug (mobo's issue) at around -90*C, on P6X58D Premium -107*C.

Unfortunately on R2E doesn't work any vcore above 1.9v in bios, mobo's doesn't boot and P6X58D Premium has working voltages, but on high frequencies with all cores and HT OCP & OVP kicked us So in Vantage P6X58D Premium was better 5550 MHz (5500 mhz on R2E) but in 2006 it did only 5600 MHz

I think it's quite good piece of hardware We are waiting for Rampage III Extreme and MSI BigBang Xpower

wow congrats, indeed nice work in finding a good B1 batch

I assume it's the good retail 3003B331 batch ? Seems that 980X batch is doing well

No it's an ES, at this moment I have only ES versions of 980x from batches 3952A844 and 3951A763

Maybe in the near future I will have another sample. If not, I shall try this one on REXIII and MSI BigBang or EVGA if it will be necessary.

I have to find Gulfi which will do 6 GHz 3D and 2D 6.2 GHz. Maybe better motherboard will add this juicy CPU some more power? God please add 200 MHz to Vantage hehe
