A8N32 overclock settings help

Hello all, i'm trying to overclock my machine manually for the first time but i'm starting to get a little freaked out and i need some help!!

My specs are: AMD X23800, A8N32 SLi - Deluxe, 2 Gb Corsair DDR PC3200

I'm currently trying to find the max chipset speed. What i have done so far is:
1. changed processor frequency multi from 10x to 6x
2. changed memclock value to 100Mhz
3. changed K8 to NB frequency from auto to 3x

my question is, that last value is it the HTT multi? i can't find anything in the bios that says HTT multi. i've raised the CPU FSB frequency to 320 and its still booting into windows and i'm getting concerned that i haven't got the right value??!
my temps are fine, the core has only jumped a degree from a FSB of 280 to 320.

Can someone advise me if i'm doing this right?!!

Re: A8N32 overclock settings help

I had this same mobo a while ago. HTT multi should be set to the same as your K8 to NB ratio. ie. 3x. Same rule applies, keep it as close to 1000 as possible.

Re: A8N32 overclock settings help

yeah thats what is getting me worried, the fact that i am getting up to that limit already (320*3). so that value is the actual HTT multi tehn and not something different? it would be so much easier if they were at least called that in the BIOS, i just don't want to muck around with the wrong thing..
BTW this is the process i'm following:

1. Max Chipset Speed
This tests the maximum speed your chipset can handle.

1. Set the CPU multiplier to low value (~6 should be good).
2. Set the Memory to about half its normal speed (100MHz should be good).
3. Set the HTT multiplier to 3x
(The above 3 steps ensure the CPU, Memory and HyperTransport will not be limiting the speed of the Chipset)
4. Increase the HTT in increments of no more than 20MHz (10MHz is better, but slower) until the computer fails to boot (with some boards you will get beep codes, or even voice announcements such as "System boot fail due to CPU overclock".
5. Go back to the last stable speed, and increase in increments of 5MHz, until it fails to boot. About 5MHz below the last stable speed found here is the maximum stable speed.

Yeh it's the same thing. Asus like to call stuff in the BIOS some weird names.

And yes the procedure ur following is spot on.

Let me see if I can dig up any screenies of my 3800 x2 and A8N32-SLi...

I loved this rig BTW.

Re: A8N32 overclock settings help

WOW thats a pretty impressive OC you got there!
so if i'm on the right track then any value over 334 for the HTT and i'll need to change the value of the K8 to NB to 2x. right?
i do remember reading another guide that said a little over is ok, so i might keep it at 3x for a little longer, but does this HTT value not seem a bit high?

yeah me too this thing is a beast, i've currently got it running a dirty 30% OC by using AI Booster but i really want to do it the "proper" way and learn more about it.

Not necessarily! I think (IIRC) the A8N32-SLI can do HTT of up to 1200 without problems. In this regard they are even better than the infamous DFI Lanparty boards. To be on the safe side tho, keep it at 3x up till about 1100 or 366, higher than that and I'd drop it to 2x but ONLY if you get instability.

Also, what Corsair RAM did u get? I had these sticks:

But they wouldn't do much past 210-215 so I sold them and bought G.Skill PC4000 HZ's.
