A very slow task. Just one try x day. Before switching off you set the new values and hope it will work in the next day. Try upgrading the BIOS to 0303 and do a memtest86+ (on 12GB) to be sure that everything is ok.

Yep, a slow task indeed. The question is this, 'is it worth it?'. Is this problem causing any harm to any of my components? It is not such a hardship to boot twice in the morning, yet trying to resolve the problem could take weeks of trying one thing at a time.

Does anyone have any evidence that not fixing this actually causes any problems?

The only thing to do if the answer is no is to fight the part of me that constantly whispers in my ear 'yeah, but it's not working properly is it?'

Just before turning off the PC, boot in the Bios and change some settings. Then in the next morning watch for a unlikely success of seeing 12GB at the first time. I take it like with a game.

Personally I'm not aware of any problems this would cause, other than using 2GB less than installed. It's just the first boot that is unable to recognize all 12GB. Normally I need around 8GB, so I don't care much for having 10GB instead of 12GB. When more is needed then I boot twice.

Life is often a compromise, my new computer is doing perfectly all the needed tasks, much better than the older one, that's important and it's even beautiful to watch (like you I have the FT02 ). So I'm happy with it....

Well, I have updated the BIOS - if that doesn't sort the problem then I will live with double booting. The FT02 is a beautiful thing - took me a while to get my head round the rotated motherboard, but I like that I don't have to move the PC to un-plug anything! The only problem is that the graphics card was a bit of a squeeze!

No joy after the BIOS update. I don't really know enough about overclocking to be confident about changing the voltages etc. It has been about five years since my last build and boy have things moved on!

I'm thinking that the memory issue is BIOS related.

I'm guessing that we're not going to get much support for this motherboard. I noticed that the P6X58D Premium has had 9 Bios updates (incuding one just 10 days ago). The 'E' model has 2 updates. The last one was over 3 months ago. Since these boards are very similar in construction, one would think that they would both benefit from these updates.

I have the same problems like you, but i have a 3x2GB G.Skill F3-10666CL7T on my Motherboard P6X58D-E, in "cold" boot it starts with 4GB and i have to turn off and start it again and the BIOS shows 6GB.
