do you change this before you install the OS or after....does it matter...........change the HD spec to SATA/300 in DOS that is

i am putting together a nice hybrid machine for a mate with this ripper Asrock board and ULi chipset with M2 socket upgrade and both 16xPCIe and APG8x on the board...

it's going to be good...coupling it with some nice ZX G.Skills as well I might give them a spin in Abit as well

this Mobo is advertised to have a PCIe SATA onboard controller.......I thought all of the mobos we have do have the same feature....couldn't be bothered looking it up

You need to go to hitachi web site and download 'features tool' software to enable it in DOS - search google

there we go http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

eva, I was wondering if you could give me a bit of into on what these drives sound like?

If you could say, compare there noise to the likes of a Barracuda IV/V... do they have a high pitched noise or more of a low drone.

Would be great if you could help me out, but no sweat if you cant.

Cheers,
Ian

i may be able to, without AAM they sound similar to my previous wd raptor (churning when being worked hard), with it on they are inaudible. then again, i haven't gone through many drives in my lifetime.

The_Rick: what specific model WD did you previously have?

alpha0ne: I am assuming those speeds are with 2x ?

Is there much of a drop in performance when AAM?
How do you think two 7*GB raptors would stack against two of these?
Heat, in comparisson to other drives?
