Re: Best PCIe Raid Card ?

Areca branded http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_p...egory_id]=1423 but i think end of this month a new series of Areca PCI-E SATA raid controllers are due with faster onboard processor... so maybe worth the wait

Thanks, eva2000, thats the brand Jammer recommended. I was tossing up weather to wait for advancements in Flash memory eg. capacity or stay with Mech HDs. But at this stage it looks like Flash tech will be a while yet before they start approaching anything like 50 or 60Gb and more.
So, end of this month is this coming Tuesday. Great, looks like don't have to wait long...

Re: Best PCIe Raid Card ?

Areca new product coming mid November apparently

http://www.areca.us/products/html/pcietosas1280.htm

ARC-1231ML

ARC-1261ML

ARC-1280ML

ARC-1280

Hmmm only 12, 16 and 24 port versions no 4 port so maybe getting current model is best ?

Re: Best PCIe Raid Card ?

For a 4-port the Areca ARC-1210 is my pick of the PCI-E cards.

Re: Best PCIe Raid Card ?

A flick through the latest Atomic Magazine (issue 70) shows a review called "Building your own RAID" page 27. They tested 3 different PCIe cards and 1 PCIx model. Apparently the Areca card ARC-1220 was not a good performer and had compatibility issues. Makes me wonder about there other models.

probably early bios/firmware issues ? as Areca is the clear leader for PCI-E raid controllers right now... and well it's Atomic heh
