Ever since quad cores came out and even with 980X, I've always used the line method for applying MX-2, and MX-3. Tried line method with Shin Etsu X23-7783D but resulted in higher temps than MX-2/MX-3, so i suspect some TIMs better with blob. Haven't tried Shin Etsu X23-7783D since, as it's only 1g tube so don't want to waste it yet. Currently, line method with MX-3

Edit to correct all my errors, LOL:
Silly me just realized MX-3 isn't Arctic Silvers product but went a head and ordered some. Do you think the line method or the dollop method works best with this stuff? I know AS alwaysa recommended doing the line method and the review link shows drop method for MX-2 which I assume is just an older version of compound.

EDIT: Oh well the shop I ordered from just emailed me that they were OOS of MX-3, they did have some Shin so I told em keep the one order in case the MX-3 comes in soon but to also send me a deal of the shin as well. Figure which ever shows up first

Okay, going to get it over with today. Before I start tho one thing. I notice over at the AS site they talk about tininting the cooler and the top of the chip. I know I'm gonna have to clean off my V8 before I install it on my new CPU and have good 2 part cleaner for that step. Once I do it should I use the tinting method with either the shin or MX-3 or is that just unnessiary work for me?

Okay, then no tinting. I know I will still have to do the cleaning to since before I used AS5. Still torn between trying to use the Shin I have line method of stick with the MX-3 since you seem to have good luck with it. Ended up with a tube of each, hehe
