Opteron Socket939 Overclocking Discussion Thread

hey guys

i thought we should concentrate OC discussion here and try and improve these OCs

i've done a bit of testing on mine last night

System Specifications:
Opteron 144 (CABYE 0536GPMW)
DFI nF4 SLI-D (BIOS 704-2BTA)
Corsair HC200 Water Cooling
2x512MB G.Skill LE TCCD 440
X800 434/1146
Wavemaster
Enermax 535W EPS SLi PSU

**I cannot get it to pass 1M at 3GHz............the highest i've done with 1M was 2970MHz..........
**i think the CPU is very sensitive to MAL & Read Preamble settings.
**I also haven't played much with drive strength settings and some RAM timings.....i think i should be able to do a 1M 3GHz with a bit of tweaking..............
**the CPU is normally very close in MHz stability between 1M, 8M and 32M times with all else equal........
**The CPU is definately hotter than Venice.......i think about 10C or so
**This time round i thought I'd try Ceramique thermal paste and see how that does....don't know if it contributes to higher temps at all

I can suicide on at least 3.1GHz......didn't try higher but see no issues

3GHz validation screen ....will do 3.1GHz when i get around to it http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=43745

1.36V 2.7GHz 1M SPI

1.36V 2.7GHz 8M SPI

1.44V 2.8GHz 1M SPI

1.44V 2.8GHz 8M SPI

1.5V 2.9GHz 1M SPI

1.52V 2.9GHz 8M SPI
http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/5...divider9xz.jpg

i left it on CPU burn in last night for 5 hours with 1.54V 2.9GHz and did a 32M run with these settings now.....i'd say 1.52V would probably do the job as well.......it's a slooooooow time.....lots of tweaking ahead :)

BEST SuperPI 1M time at 2970Mhz

Good stuff dinos

Here's my latest, 100% stable 2.8ghz on air 1.44v

can you add some more info on the system you run and it would be great if you can start using A64Tweaker shots for settings

let us know what sort of bios you use as well and what settings you have on the drive strengths

I've been using TREF=Auto until i figure out what's good what's not...let us know what you've done

I'm using the 702-3 BIOS, everything in BIOS is default except CPU settings and ram divider (RAM is at 2.5-4-4-8 2T using 100 divider)

I'll use a64 tweaker in my next shot for ya :)

Oh yeah, chipset is at 1.6v too

did you need to increase chipset volts or you just did it for the hell of it

isn't that 702-3 bios the one that killed all those nice CPUs......make sure you don't select above 113% VID

Use the BIOS that locks out above 113% (or 123% i forget)

Hey Dinos, what values did you set for drive strength and the other-thingy-similar-to-drive-strength? I use 7 and 2 on my Venice with TCCD memory.

mute 13-10-2005 12:15 PM

Nah it's 704 that kills CPU's, not 702

Just upped the chipset voltage for the hell of it dinos, ive found in the past that 1.5 just isnt enough for over 290HTT

Anyway, nice 24/7 speeds here
