Any PCI-E card will work in any Slot.....a 1x card will work fine in a 16x slot. and a 16x card will work in a 1x slot (assuming the slot has got the end of the slot cut so the card will fit in.....) - only the bandwidth will be limited...but a sound card will not take up much bandwidth so once again - it will work fine. |

Benji are you thinking of the soundcards that come with the rampage or ROG Asus boards? They are indeed daughter cards and won't work on any other board but the one that they came with. Those boards use on-board sound and the PCI-E x1 you get with them is only a daughter card (ie it does NO sound processing at all). The Asus Xonar DX and D2X is a completely different kettle of fish. They are full blown dedicated sound cards that will work in any motherboard and they are great cards. I think these are the cards that the OP is talking about. |
