Total noob I been running my 980x at Bclk133 with 1333RAM for about 6-8 months. I bought an upgrade to 2250Mhz RAM. Looking for guidance on Bios setup. Board is GA-X58A-UD5.(Rev.1)Bios=F6 (CPU - stock cooler). Thought I'd try the new RAM at 2200Mhz, CPU 3.8 - 4Ghz - I'd like to push Base Clock to 200 but I'll need a better cooler first. So to start maybe Bclk 160. Any special voltage adjustments required? I think I can do RAM 2200, Bclk-160, CPU 3.8 with auto settings??? I'm running the new RAM now with the "E.M.P. Profile-1" Bios memory profile at Bclk-141. If I missed a post with this info already, sorry. Thanks Ty ps. New to the board so forgive me if I am entirely in the wrong place. |

I wouldn't rely on auto settings, boards tend to set QPI/VTT way too high when you do that. With the 980x you don't really need to push BCLK high since you have unlocked multiplier but then again 200BCLK isn't really pushing it. For DDR3-2200 you can run 157BCLK with the 2:14 divider, 183BCLK with the 2:12 or 220BCLK with the 2:10 divider. It's almost too easy since uncore doesn't have to be 2*memory speed with Gulftown.

@GenAn Thanks so much for hitting me back. One small issue. I'm super noob. I got most of the lingo but you lost me on some specifics. The following is lost on me "For DDR3-2200 you can run 157BCLK with the 2:14 divider, 183BCLK with the 2:12 or 220BCLK with the 2:10 divider." I don't quite get the something:something divider. Do you know a post where I can read in more detail about this aspect? Thanks again. I'll do some testing and hit back Ty. |

So i farted around a bit and based on what you said I tried: Bclk:220 and it booted...surprise, surprise. but I lost my bluTooth at that speed so no keyboard or mouse. So I knocked it back to Bclk 187 with X20(CPU-3.74) Now BluTooth works and boots clean. idle temp is 43c with stock cooler. Attached are BiOS screen caps. Is there a way to screen cap BiOS. As of now I am actually photographing the screen. Ty |
