Was out of the loop regarding NAND developments and while visiting OCZ tech support forums was caught by surprise with several threads mentioning that certain capacity OCZ Vertex 2 ssds have switched from fast 34nm NAND memory to much slower 25nm 64Gbit NAND memory - almost 43% slower in writes on 120GB Vertex 2 with slower 25nm 64Gbit NAND memory! ![]() Here's 3 threads to read to get up to speed folks.

Maybe EOL the Vertex 2 name ? Or add revision number to it ?? What do you guys think ? |

I bought a vertex 2 60gb today and its one of the "E" drives. i never noticed until i saw this article/thread. im confused now as to where to go..... my drive has a formatted capacity of 51.24gb. The drive is in my laptop (older laptop, sata1 i think for a start) so performance isnt exactly paramount - but its still crap that there is this form of "false advertising" happening........ I bought the vertex 2 as it was one of the fastest drives around, and now ive ended up with something that can be up to 45% slower than (falsely) advertised....... also involves a reduction in the P/E cycle rating. thus it will die quicker ???? once again - false advertising? where does this leave me.....???? ouch you bought it today... hurry back to store for a refund or exchange maybe ? or follow ocz instructions at http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...OCZ-SSD-drives to pay for upgrade to 25nm 32Gbit version ? not sure if that only gives more disk capacity or if performance is still slower ? Looks pretty low there performance wise. seems news of this is starting to really spread http://www.google.com.au/search?q=ocz+vertex+25nm |

only have a return at the store - and thats at a 15% cost..... other option is an additional $10 + shipping.....what a rip esp when there was no saving over current prices of the other models..... from that thread too - it would seem that there is no real performance difference either - just a slight size increase......hmm - screwed or screwed. lucky this is for my somewhat aging laptop and not my sig rig or id be mega upset - im still a little pissed off though. re-running all the tests with it in my gaming system now to see how slow it really is..... EDIT: attached the tests from within my gaming system - quite a bit better but still lacking over some of the reviews i looked up. |

Yeah you're caught between 2 unfavourable options although 15% restocking fee is cheaper way. Or you could honestly explain to retailer the device isn't fit for it's purpose linking to the comparison result thread i posted and the web site ocz product page spec listing and demand a refund in full Someone has highlighted another potential issue what of the revo/revo x2 units if they can unannounced 25nm 64Gbit NAND too http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...-REVO-X2-25-nm - that would really piss off folks forking out $$$$ for revo/revo x2 PCI-E devices as well! |

found a review comparing the 25 and 32nm 60gb drives: http://www.storagereview.com/ocz_ver...czssd22vtxe60g looks like in the long run it will make little difference to my application of it in my aging laptop - but wont be getting (this gen) vertex 2 for my gaming rig |

thanks for the link... wow even the packaging of the actual ssd went cheaper end
Just nasty ![]() Don't agree with reviewers conclusion if your intended use in web/database server environments though. |
