Just arrived - 720GB SSD - 12x 60GB Gskill Phoenix Pro - Sandforce controller based SSD. My first experience with solid state disks with Sandforce based controllers. Plan to have alot of fun with these in various raid configurations for benchmarking, reviewing etc ![]() Did some quick single tests for each individual 60GB Gskill Phoenix Pro SSD on my main work rig (Xeon W3540 + DFI UT X58-T3EH8) via the Manhatten dual 2.5" in 3.5" drive bay. ![]() Each Gskill Phoenix Pro SSD includes a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor bay to convert 2.5" SSD to 3.5" along with 4 screws. ![]() ![]() Tested all 12x 60GB Gskill Phoenix Pro SSD individually and pretty much same results for each one with some variance in benchmarks like Pcmark Vantage HDD suite 64bit which can vary between runs. Gskill like many other SSD manufacturers rated their drives based on ATTO benchmark results at 285/275 MB/s read and write. While other benchmark apps will vary quite a bit due to the method the app uses to test the drive. ATTO ![]() Crystalmark Disk Info and Disk Benchmark ![]() Default random settings - result in slower reported performance during testing with data that isn't compressable which doesn't fair too well for sandforce controller and Durawrites which precompresses data to save writes to NAND. ![]() Change to all 0x00 (0) fills which result in more compressable dataset - so performance reports closer to rated speeds. ![]() Pcmark Vantage 64bit HDD suite ![]() ![]() HDTune 4.5 Pro ![]() I'll be moving these Gskill Phoenix Pro SSDs off my main work rig to my bench rigs once they're rebuilt and setup for further testing in various raid configurations |

Yup 12 - with recent price drops on sandforce ssds in Australia the 60GB Gskill Phoenix Pro comes to $199-200 each. Apparently, with way sandforce controller handles compressed data, Crystaldiskmark and AS SSD benchmarking can write 5-10GB of data to the ssd and wear out the drives faster than normal everyday use! So probably will keep those app benches to a minimum. Even less stressful default uncompressed 100MB single 1 test run uses up quite a bit of read/writes ~6.99GB read and ~4.29GB writes |
