Sad news is that the CPU tops out at roughly the same speed but it's now able to go higher on less VCORE than before. I can now also disable C1E which I wasn't able to do on the Axe2 (board bug that Intel refuse to fix). Overall though, it seems that the Asus board is MUCH easier to work with than the Intel and there are also more mem settings to tweak. I should never have strayed from Asus... at least now I know.

Asus still make the best intel boards regardless of their quirks (vdroop etc)

And here's my (as yet) untested vMCH mod (removable ground). I know it looks like i've soldered to the wrong leg, but trust me it just looks like that.
Also did the vdroop pencil mod, could only manage 30k ohms (down from 80k) using a 2B after many attempts.
Will test them all when i get back from HK.
