Interesting findings there eva2000.
Since increased frequency isn't really beneficial (i.e. 2200MHz CL8 vs 1600MHz CL6) I think <1700MHz at CL6 is good enough don't you think?
I actually just picked up a R3E so my build got delayed a bit longer. I am planning to try and run my Mushkins at ~1600MHz CL6 or lower (if possible). Let's see how that goes...
And you said 980x safe vtt is below 1.5V, but how about Bloomfields?

I saw in VR-Zone's computex report [VR-Zone.com] COMPUTEX 2010: Memory and Storage - Gskill has 6x4GB = 24GB kit rated at DDR3-2000Mhz 9-9-9-24 at 1.65v with i7 980X, no idea what kind of CPU VTT is needed for that, but I'd say it would be pretty high even with reduced uncore to mem frequency 1.5x min ratio requirements!

I remember when I was cancelling my order for the 2200 CL8 they wanted $90 more for me to "upgrade" to the 2000 CL7. Now they drop the price like that
(you should call them up and say you JUST ordered this memory and were planning to purchase more and tell your friends about it. Use the excuse that one of the sticks looks different . Ask if you can get the difference back...seems they are willing to negotiate if it benefits them in the long run. If you can convince them that you can actually get them more business they might work with you...they're strictly business minded.

By ubuntuluciotRCD = 9 for DDR3-2200Mhz is probably still Elpida Hyper or some form of Elpida maybe Elpida BDBG that replaced Elpida BBSE ? So still decent.

Bill posted his Elpida BDBG results tRCD 9 scaled to DDR3-2100mhz on his Kingston HyperX KHX2000C9AD3T1FK3/6GX http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=250367 so it can come down to binning as well as fact that that was with 3x2GB Kingston HyperX KHX2000C9AD3T1FK3/6GX on X58 (okay quote below says P55) while Super Talent WS220UX4G9 is 2x2GB dual channel kit, so slightly easier to get to DDR3-2200Mhz tRCD 9 + better binning, could be possible? Or some new Elpida IC to replace Elpida MGH-E and MNH-E Hypers ? Just guessing
By BenchZownerhmm looking back, Elpida BBSE was some awesome memory ics, lower cost and decent clocks - my A-DATA 2000X and Gskill 2000C9 Tridents were some solid stuff
