Problem with RAM Timings - love some help :)

Hi Guys!

I currently have DDR3 2000 RAM with timings 9-9-9-27 installed and a friend purchased me some RAM DDR3 2000 RAM with 9-11-9-27.

Under my current Asus P6X58-E MB - Win7 x64 only picks up 3 of the DIMMS and none of the other [says 12GB and 4.99 available] - so in trying, it seems that 3 of the DIMMS are being undetected. Done a memory test and says nothing wrong. Also tried each 3x2GB separately and both work individually - it's when 6x2GB are in together that only 3x2GB are detected.

Gone into the AI Tweaker and following this tutorial - Memory Test

The PIC is a bunch of stuff in relation to my RAM - Slots 1,3,5 are Kit 1 - Slots 2,4,6 are Kit 2 - would love any advice on what settings I would need to get access to all 12GB ? [or close enough] otherwise I'll have to try and return the RAM and get equivalent 9-9-9-27 [massive pain to be honest]

I've tried setting VDIMM to around 1.64V and QPI/DRAM around 1.35V - but I still arent getting the full 12GB accessible. What would I need to setup in the BIOS to make this work ?

hi andyscott, as per http://i4memory.com/ramdetect your QPI/DRAM (cpu vtt) voltage is too low for 6 dimm slot population, the link at http://i4memory.com/ramdetect has suggested guidelines for such voltages to start with

probably need to try voltages that aren't suited for 24/7 if you want rated mem speeds, if you want 24/7 safe voltages you'd need to underclock your memory i.e. DDR3-1600Mhz 9-11-9-27 at 1.66v memory volts and cpu vtt (QPI/DRAM) between 1.35-1.45v for 6x2GB. If you want to push DDR3-1600-2000Mhz then you'd need QPI/DRAM 1.45-1.65v which is cpu killing volts for 24/7 as per http://i4memory.com/ramdetect has link to Intel Core i7 920 Overclocking Introduction Guide on X58

Also as per http://i4memory.com/ramdetect Further Recommended Reading & Examples links listed in first post, some links will have suggestions for manual voltages which are needed rather than leaving stuff left at AUTO

Thanks so much for the response

I have tried reseating the RAM in the relevant KIT configurations [one kit in blue RAM, one kit in black RAM] - Slots 1,3,5 are Kit 1 - Slots 2,4,6 are Kit 2 - AND also the CPU - still doesn't seem to help my problem. Shows installed 12 GB while 4.99 Usable

I tried voltages that 24/7 safe voltages such underclock my memory i.e. DDR3-1066Mhz 9-9-9-24 at 1.64v memory volts and cpu vtt (QPI/DRAM) between 1.35 for 6x2GB - but still doesn't help either :S :S

Really no idea WTF is going on. Anyone have any ideas ?

The two products I have are

http://www.patriotmemory.net/product...36G2000ELK.pdf

And they just don't seem to be working together

You will probably have to go over 1.35v on VTT. Have you tried 1.4~1.45v?

thanks for the response

i tried 1.45v - no luck with the 9-9-9-24 config anyway. maybe i need to try 9-11-9-27 @ 1333 or 1066 with 1.65v memory volts @ 1.45v?

Little worried about exceeding >1.45v and keeping cpu vtt that high [PC stays on for around 20 hrs a day]. if I have to hit 1.5v ... and it works, is this stable ? alternatively, if it doesn't work ?

Maybe it would best if you opt for a 3x4GB kit of memory prices from corsair, gskill, mushkin are coming down for 3x4GB and 4x4GB kits for x58 and p55/am3

hey guys - yeah just seems this combo with my MB won't work

tried again at 10-11-10-27 @ 1066MHZ with cpu vtt 1.5V and memory 1.65v and still win7 x64 won't recognise. it's recognised at POST bios - but won't load in Win7. just seems these models aren't compatible or rather simply won't load on my MB - x58 seem to be funny with RAM models and require a fair bit of tweaking and >1.5v just isn't stable for 20hr+ usage - my CPU will fry.

i think i'll return the RAM and get 12GB of 4x3GB @ 1600MHZ and just overclock it a little to achieve a similar performance ratio as per eva2000 recommendation [thanks!]

thanks for the great advice none the less
