DFI sent me their DFI JR X58-T3H6 micro-ATX motherboard a while back, but was preoccupied with it's big brother the DFI UT X58-T3EH8 for the last 6 months
It's time to break out this younger sibling to see how it fairs against it's big brother Going to test the DFI JR X58-T3H6, working back from my original i7 920 twin batch 3836A756 C0 cpus, then through to my twin batch i7 920 3851A368 D0 cpus, then finally to Xeon W3520 3845A935 D0 cpu so can get a comparison of how each cpu did compared with DFI UT X58-T3EH8
I'll be using 2 sets of triple channel memory kits for now until I can get my Kingston kit RMA'd:
- 6GB Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-2000Mhz 7-8-7-20 (TR3X6G2000C7GTF)
- 6GB OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333Mhz 7-7-7-24 (OCZ3P1333LVA6GK 'Animal Series')
- 6GB Kingston HyperX T1 DDR3-2000Mhz 8-8-8-24 (KHX16000D3ULT1K3-6X) Need RMA replacement
I'll be using the exact same setup/cooling as used for latter DFI UT X58-T3EH8 tests listed below:

The DFI JR X58-T3H6 shipped with a pre-release 1/14 bios as I had this board way before it was available via retail channels. The official shipping bios was 1/15. So I flashed to 2/27 bios to start the tests.
System:- i7 920 3836A756 C0 #2
- EK Supreme LT 1366 / FESER 480 / MCP655
- DFI JR X58-T3H6 2/27
- 6GB OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333Mhz 7-7-7-24 (OCZ3P1333LVA6GK 'Animal Series')
- 750GB Samsung SATAII
- Silverstone OP1200 PSU
- WinXP Pro SP3
First cpu to test is my second i7 920 3836A756 C0 cpu. You could say this is worst i7 920 cpu out of my four i7 920 c0 and d0 cpus in terms of vcore needed for 4Ghz on DFI UT X58-T3EH8 which was approximately 1.392v on TRUE120 air cooling. Now to see how this cpu fairs on DFI JR X58-T3H6
Now on DFI JR X58-T3H6, it's interesting to note the differences out of the board compared to DFI UT X58-T3EH8.
- AUTO vcore differences: on DFI UT X58-T3EH8, auto vcore for this cpu was 1.184v idle/1.168v load. On DFI JR X58-T3H6, auto vcore for this cpu was 1.136v idle / 1.152v load.
- CoreTemp 0.99.5 Build 20: on DFI UT X58-T3EH8, core 0 + 2 where hotter than core 1+3. On DFI JR X58-T3H6, core 0 + 3 are hotter than core 1 + 2.
- CPU VTT bios set vs SG reported voltage: on DFI UT X58-T3H8, bios set CPU VTT at idle was close to what SmartGuardian app reported. For example, 1.31v CPU VTT bios set, SG reported 1.31v idle and 1.33v load. But on DFI JR X58-T3H6, CPU VTT bios set to 1.31v is undervolted in SG at 1.24v idle and 1.26v load. Haven't measured multimeter yet as there is no easy DMM read points on JR board like on the UT version.
- VDIMM undervolting in SG: SG on DFI JR X58-T3H6 reports memory voltage as undervolted i.e. 1.635v and 1.65v bios set vdimm = 1.61v and 1.63v in SG app. Whereas, on DFI UT X58-T3EH8, SG would report them as 1.64v and 1.66v respectively.

6GB OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333 (OCZ3P1333LVA6GK)
'Animal Series'
This is the first time using this 6GB OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333 (OCZ3P1333LV A6GK) triple channel kit, so it's performance is an unknown for me. This kit is specially denoted with the 'A' in the product code to differentiate itself from regular OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333Mhz triple channel kit. Known as OCZ Animal series, OCZ decided to sprinkle some new Micron DDR3-2000Mhz CAS9 binned ICs and drop them in OCZ Platinum and Gold series products at the lower rated kit prices for us overclockers
As always, whenever I start testing a new system - motherboard and memory pairing, the first thing I do is focus solely on how the memory behaves - what it can and can't do. I'll start with it's rated timings 7-7-7-24 at 1.65v and work my way up. So bookmark this page and check back for updates
Super Pi 32M
First objective, single Super Pi 32M stable at rated timings with vdimm 1.68v bios set - SG fluctuates between 1.64v and 1.66v.

Had to swap out my Silverstone OP1200 power supply as there's a plastic like burning smell coming from near the PSU switch area - so it's off to get RMA'd. Installed my Corsair HX1000 to continue the memory tests for single Super Pi 32M to get a feel of how these OCZ Platinum 1333 Animal memory behave
more tests soon..

Are there any major differences with T3eH8, except for the fact that this one is mATX ? 'Cause here in Greece their prices are almost the same (249€ for the T3H6, 258€ for the T3eH8). These new OCZ kits are spectacular !

The PWM design is alot stronger on UT X58-T3EH8, so will handle much higher load/oc's especially on phase/sub zero compared to the little brother, JR X58.
Here the price on JR X58 has dropped somewhat
JR X58 AUD$299 originally in OZ same price as DK X58
DK X58 AUD$344
UT X58 AUD$444
So maybe wait for a drop in price if you want JR X58. But for oc'ing to the max UT X58 would be better.
