| Re: 8GB Memory Question
Have learned a 64 bit OS is required. With regards to the need for this much...well...not sure I know yet. These days with multi-cores, multi-tasking, multi-sreens, super speeds, and boards designed for this amount of memory, it seems a fair question. This, with good DDR2 being affordable now. You say it's slower. This is the kind of info I need and MORE, so I can make everything work right. Just a thought, how many people need a frozen 7GHz CPU 24/7 in the office. |

| Re: 8GB Memory Question
"slower" means that generally, 2GB sticks cannot overclock as high as 1GB sticks. Though, 2GB sticks are quite suitable for high speed setups these days, my Crucial 2GB sticks seem happy to run at DDR2-1066 in an 8GB configuration. It's only the very high (DDR2-1150) speeds and very tight latencies where 2GB tends to fall away.

| Re: 8GB Memory Question
There are many people who will make use of 8Gb and the apps around it ... 3D rendering, Graphics work, SQL DB's, VMWare ... so while some of the 2Gb modules may appear 'slower' under synthetic benchmarks these will not be noticed in real-world apps. I for one would benefit from such a configuration, now 4gb in the Laptop (need to change it so as to get more for the road) .... not everyone just runs games |
