Is there any real world performance increase (Noticeable performance increase, faster load times etc) that would give a good strong reason to go with a raid0 config over say 1 500gb drive?

In general no difference.... but there's a but... in the real world you'd sometimes copy large files or copy several large files to different locations... and raid sometimes will speed up the time it takes to copy stuff. There's a huge difference in times when i copy 30+ GB of SDTV PVR recorded videos from one drive to another when it's non-raided versus my Raidcore PCI-X 4x 320GB 7200.10 Raid 5 array - raid 5 array is much faster in transferring the files. And raid 5 has saved my bacon more than once when a drive fails.. with raid 5 just replace failed drive and Raidcore rebuilds my raid 5 array and no data loss ![]() Note raid 5 onboard motherboards is alot slower than a dedicated raid card like Raidcore BC4852 PCI-X |

2 x 150 GB Raptor Raid 0 FTW! I hate the interminable pause when logging into XP as AV firewall and other apps load up, I hate waitng for ProE and Unigraphics and Adobe CS2 to load, I hate any load time for programs. Large file copies are sooo much quicker. |
