Looks like Intel Xeon 56xx series quad and hexa core westmere-c 32nm based processors have started to be listed. Intel Xeon 5600 series prices are much more expensive than desktop side! Only budget choice for 32nm quad core would be Intel Xeon E5630 and E5620 running at 2.533ghz and 2.40ghz respectively - 19x and 18x cpu multipliers. If folks think Intel 980X and Xeon 3680 6 core based 32nm processors are too much and want 32nm quad core based processor, you wont see them until Q4, 2010 on desktop side (according to Anandtech that will be with 32nm quad core Sandy Bridge http://www.anandtech.com/show/2722/5 which will need a new motherboard as it's socket 1155 on Intel's new 6-Series platform codenamed Cougar Point) .
Xeon 3680 3.33Ghz 6 cores
Xeon X5680 3.33Ghz 6 cores
Xeon 5670 2.93Ghz 6 cores
Xeon 5660 2.80Ghz 6 cores
Xeon 5650 2.66Ghz 6 cores
Xeon L5640 2.67Ghz 6 cores
Xeon W5677 3.46Ghz 4 cores
Xeon W5667 3.33Ghz 4 cores
Xeon E5640 2.66Ghz 4 cores
Xeon E5630 2.53Ghz 4 cores
Xeon E5620 2.40Ghz 4 cores
Xeon L5630 2.13Ghz 4 cores
Xeon L5620 1.86Ghz 4 cores

Indeed might as well get an Intel Core i7 980X heh. Wonder if Xeon 3670 and lower models will eventually come out like Xeon W3580, W3570 etc. Looks like 32nm quad core sandy bridge samples are already shipping though http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...tion_Ramp.html but new socket form factor LGA1155 ![]()

From reviews 980X vs 975 is ~25-55% faster clock for clock, which seems normal as there's 50% more cores 6 vs 4. Xeon E5640 is 2.66ghz equivalent for the Core i7 920 2.66ghz so maybe 5-20% faster seeing as they're both quad core could be close. But 32nm has some improved instruction sets i.e. AES/encryption which is leaps and bounds faster than 45nm older cpus. New AES-NI instructions in 32nm ![]() ![]() But guess it will run cooler and clock slightly higher on 32nm process. |

The E5640 is just way too expensive at the moment. The 5620 is tempting but it will obviously require a high bclk for high clocks which is kind of a downer.Would love to try out some 32nm goodness though. Hmm...

retail B1 and ES B1 step 2 W3680 are cpu unlocked like Intel Core i7 980X. See Frenchlick's W3680 B1 ES |
