Cool W3540 3845B010 batch club
Old 27-08-2009, 03:12 AM   #1 (permalink)

Lots of Aussie folks who nabbed the first shipment of Xeon W3540 2.93Ghz (22x multi /23x turbo) cpus got this gem batch 3845B010. Chime in and join the club if you have one of these and post your results

Bought mine 3rd hand off frenchlick / Darren on OCAU forums who bought it off bob(nz) AFAIK

nice clocker apparently - Xeon W3540 3845B010

On Asus P6T6 WS Revolution with 0007 beta bios. Default AUTO vcore in bios reports = 1.088v. Manually need to set vcore to 1.10625v to get 1.088v vcore reported in bios.

Very promising start indeed using 4Ghz Prime95 benchmark as a guide to a cpu's potential. This Xeon W3540 3845B010 gem batch managed to do 4Ghz at 1.160v idle / 1.168v load with 52-57C load temps which is the best LGA1366 cpu i have experienced just edging out my Xeon W3520 3845A935 gem batch which did 4Ghz at 1.184v load with 57-60C load temps with exact same cooling EK Supreme LT / TFC480 / MCP655 H20.

System:

Xeon W3540 3845B010
vs
Xeon W3520 3845A935

Promising start with oc'ing 4378Mhz at 1.272v and 4487mhz at 1.320v for Super Pi 32M.

@4378Mhz at 1.272v

@4487Mhz at 1.320v

@4593Mhz at 1.424v

@4637Mhz at 1.472v

Seem to have a problem with booting into windows at >4600Mhz HT enabled but seems okay booting under 4600Mhz and then using either TurboV or setFSB to bump BCLK and cpu clock up. Going to try other cpu multipliers to make sure.

Max Validation @4821Mhz at 1.488v

Man W3540 hwbot category http://www.hwbot.org/hardware/processor/xeon_w3540 will be hard to compete in with on H20. Guess I'll need some better cooling from Kayl hehe

Update: Swapped out my OCZ Platinum 1333 Animals for first time use of Corsair Dominator GT 2000C7 kit on Asus P6T6 WS Revolution. Not bad for quick dial in settings with auto set tRFC value. Fast 1M & 32M Super Pi efficiency though!

20x200bclk with 10x mem multi DDR3-2000Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.66v
vs
22x182bclk with 12x mem multi DDR3-2184Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.82v

20x200bclk with 10x mem multi DDR3-2184Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.66v

RTL = 54/57/60

22x182bclk with 12x mem multi DDR3-2184Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.82v

RTL = 56/59/60

Xeon W3540 HT Disabled
@4702Mhz - 4759Mhz at 1.568v

Was worth the effort in figuring out and applying 12x memory multiplier's subtimings for Corsair Dominator GT with 10x memory multiplier configuration. With manually set subtimings applied to 10x memory multiplier config, was able to get memory memtest86+ test #5 10x loop stable which was enough for me to pass Super Pi 32M @4702Mhz - 22x 214bclk with DDR3-2136Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.74v. That's a nice improvement over max 32M Pi @4660Mhz with DDR3-2118Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.84v

Super Pi 1M @4759Mhz

Super Pi 1M & 32M @4702Mhz

ooooh congrats on the lovely cpu I am a proud member of the W3540 3845B010 club

I've yet to test on the Classified & cascade, but will let you know my results. Up till now i've been bclk and probably pwm limited on a Giga EX58 extreme to around 5.3g 32m and 3dmark 05 & 03.. 230bclk isn't enough to max out these cpus when cold hehehe

Looking forward to your results George I'm sure you will have a lot of fun

Yeah it looks real nice. Almost as nice as my 920. My next chip though is going to be a Xeon. My question to you is when are you going to get a Classified so you can start to see your chips true potentials? You don't know what you are missing out on until you go sub-zero with one of these mobos!

Well I never used LN2/DI before and last time i used my Kayl 1/4HP SS unit (with only s939/LGA775 mount support) was nearly 1 1/2 yrs ago if I remember correctly.

So forking out the dollars for an EVGA X58 Classified doesn't seem to be of great importance considering how much sub zero time it I'd have on it. Now if I didn't have to pay for an EVGA X58 Classified board that would be a different story altogether

But hopefully with finances, I'll get Kayl to build me a new phase change unit and push my cpus a bit more.
