Agreed. Can't you get more out of your E6600? what Lxxx is that ?
My E6600 is happy at 3.7Ghz for daily use or 3.8Ghz for benching as long as its not the middle of summer in a heatwave eg. air cooled.

The direction of games this year, especially in 2nd half 07' will make up my mind about going to quad core or not, otherwise they are useless unless you multitask with 3 or more tasks simultaneously.

Just got one of those E6750 of ye ole Vic for my sons new comp.

We did a quick and dirty test on Vic's P5W64 with it just to confirm it was working.

8 X 400 for 3.2GHz with 1.18vcore with load temps of 41C orthos stable under Tuniq Tower 120 with a crapy mount and a $hit load of white thermal paste (that's Vic's trip ) with 25C ambients.

Also just got a P5B-D mobo for the chip. Going to lap the IHS properly and put my lapped Thermalright U-120 on it.

1.18vcore for 3.2GHz got to love that....wonder how far she'll go.

I can def run it 24/7 @ 3.6/3.7ghz but the question is do I want/need to? No I don't. 3ghz is enough for any game I need to play right now and another 600mhz will make no difference to daily use. I'd rather keep the vcore at or below stock (currently 1.24v) when I'm doing nothing with it.

I notice a difference in gameplay with S.T.A.L.K.E.R going from a trial run off 3.3Ghz to 3.62Ghz. At the higher clockspeed, definately a smoother experience, but I don't know if you go for this game? only one example. Makes a difference with video encoding too @ 3.6Ghz +

Well best I can do for sub 3600mhz 32M challenge with this E6700 L629B079 on P5B Deluxe - Team 6400C3 doesn't like tRAS of 4 or too tight sub timings it seems



on dirty WinXP Pro SP2.. has .Net framework etc installed.. might need a clean windows install later

Imo, no point in laying out big money for processors untill "Wolfdale" appears around Aug 07', then either E6800 or E6850 will be on my shopping list. Besides what applications use 4 cores at the moment? bugger all! no point in laying out for 2 x C2D on one substrate and flogging it off as a "quad core" like intel do at the moment, wait for the die shrink and native 1333mhz FSB -those babies will be pretty good o/c'ers imo...

More confirmation of Q3 07' - 1333mhz quadcore E6850 and X38 chipset, but nothing about die shrink...

Earlier it was reported that Intel plans to introduce dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessors with 1333MHz processor system bus in the third quarter of 2007, whereas the quad-core chips would still have to use 1066MHz PSB for some time. But according to a news-story at HKEPC web-site, the company now intends to release Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 microprocessor in Q3 2007. The new chip is projected to use code-named Clovertown design – two pieces of silicon on a single slice of substrate – operate at 3.0GHz and use 1333MHz processor system bus. The new chip is expected to cost $999.

The release of quad-core chip with 1333MHz bus will allow Intel to promote its new-generation enthusiast-class 3-series chipsets among users of high-end components. Current quad-core chips may function even on mainboards based on the Intel 975X chipset released more than a year ago, meaning that end-users do not need to upgrade their platforms when installing a brand-new processor. If Intel launches a new enthusiast-class chip with high-speed PSB, a platform upgrade will be needed, which will help Intel not only to increase high-end chipset sales, but to also popularize DDR3 memory, which will be supported by P3- and X38-series core-logic sets.
