I have only ever used metho (between drinks ) then just breath on the IHS (garlic breath ) a few times then rub hard using a lint free cloth and its amazing how much stuff comes off even when the IHS is as shiny as a mirror

| Re: Arctic Silver's new TIM application method for Core 2 Duo cpus By SLi_dog I do the same m8 but just a tiny bit less and never have problems with any air cooling I apply. All that stuff in the pdf for c2d is common sense with the cleaning and what not.

Assuming that each die is rectangular and they are oriented side be side, that would make a lot of sense. Did you find a picture of the placement of the dies on the substrate anywhere?
