Ok so I had my QX6700 in my P5K premium air cooled so all I did was 333FSB for 3.333GHz with everything on Auto. It worked perfect. I think on load it was 1.31-1.33v. Well back in my striker now with the IFX-14 (crappy mount, there is 10-15°C difference between cores 01 and 23 ) and I can not get 3.3GHz to be more then 2 seconds prime stable. The last voltage I tried was 1.3825v in bios which was 1.36v idle and 1.28v load in pcprobe. Well core temp was already seeing temps of 77°C on cores 01 so I just put it back to stock until I can fix this IFX-14 or get this thing back under water. However I did put the FSB to 333MHz and drop the multi to 8 for a significant boost in memory performance. Funny thing... from 1.34v - 1.3825 the load volts in pcprobe was 1.28 while the idle volts and temps went up... even though the load volts was the same why would the temps go up!!?!?!?!? But !@#$... do I do the pencil vdroop mod or do I ditch the striker all together? |

If there is a pencil mod for a board that may help then by all means give it a crack If you are handy with a soldering iron then hard mods are always very handy.Be careful when doing mods, you can ruin something with much ease. |

Well we will see... If I can get my computer back up and running I will do it. I was running some tests try to figure out my performance issues as of late and now I am getting BSOD's and ugh.... the problems are all starting over. I think my striker fried another set of ram. Possibly both of my good sets. At least NCIX will RMA them. If it turns out that is the case then I am ditching this board. I am done. I would buy another one but why when there are way better boards out there... I didnt have to try to OC my QX6700 when it was in the P5K Premium... it just worked... on stock voltage!!! So... heh... Striker 2 Extreme or Maximus Formula? I am leaning towards Maximus Formula. Although the layout on the Striker 2 is identicle to mine.. |

OK.... I think I have my system back under control. I removed two sticks of ram (had 4 in to play quake 4 without a page file... serioulsy it helped) and cleared the cmos. Now its back up and running. My instability before doesnt seem to be from the droop or the temps... but rather the ****ty old striker FSB limitation with quads... dropped it down to 300FSB and upped the multi and I could get it half assed stable. Had to increase the NB to 1.4v but maybe with 1.6v I could actually get to a decent FSB... will wait till I have teh CPU back under water though... still might be able to do something descent with this system yet... Theory... vdroop mod will decrease my temps? Like in the P5K Premium I had it at 1.32v running 3.3GHz with not much then higher then stock temps. It was awesome. But it the striker I need to set the bios to 1.3825v to get 1.31v under load (as where the P5K was 1.32 in bios and idle and under load) and my temps are through the roof. Even though the load temps are the same do the temps go up with the voltage you set it at? |
