Changy I had Gskill PC6400 HZ running fine on the Striker before at 1600/800, it just doesn't seem to like Corsairs 6400C4 at all... I wished mobo manufacturers went back to active cooling, for me all those heatsink combo's are just craptastic, use real copper in their heatsinks and Asus give us some temp readout for Christ's sake on the important components like NB, PWM's and co with your enthousiast boards...(luckily they did this on the Blitz) Also with my OCZ I needed to set max 2.15 volts otherwise the rig became unstable even when I ran the ram at stock speeds, also the current P6400PK 4-4-3-5 run fine at auto voltage though become erratic at 2.1 volts... |

I appreciate all the responses. Now I think I am a bit overwhealmed, perhaps over my head here. I have all the compontents but my Power Supply, should be here monday. The link to the template in the second post on this theard is what I should set my bios at initally for stock, no OC, just to see its running stable with the exception of the voltage dropped mentioned a couple posts down correct? Here are my thoughts on what I need to do, this sound about right? 1. Load all components installed. start with 2 bg ram instead of 4. Start with 1 video card only (or remove SLI Bridge) 2. Update bios to 1303 (latest bios) 3. Use default bios settings as in the template. 4. Load Win Vista 64 bit 5. download windows vista 64 bit patch for more than 3 gb ram 6. load my other 2 sticks of Crucial ram(default mem settings should be 5-5-5-15 at 2.1 volt I think) Set all memory at 1066 mhz (PC 8500) 7. Load my other SLI card (or connect the bridge) 8. Run stable for a couple days, begin playing with OC (will be total learning here, as I have never done this.) |

Don't forget the board overvolts the ram so 2.050 will be max needed ,also if you are gonna run 4 dimms better go and opt for a ram cooler too... Hope you will enjoy it, till now testing the GO Q6600 at 333FSB, awaiting my watercooling gear to see if I can push it further... |

I had lots of problems with my Striker but RAM over voltage wasn't one of them. Here is how I would approach the overclocking of the Strike. It's what I did after getting advice from EVA2000 and it is both the best way to learn and the quickest way to a stable overclock in long term.
This will ensure you know how far you can push the CPU to get a max overclock. Ensure you monitor the temperatures!!! When you've reached the max CPU speed, you need to return it to standard and then repeat the above process for your RAM. This is where the fun will start as you'll get the CPU to 3.6Ghz without too much trouble. I would run MemTest 86+ and ensure you let the tests run for several passes. You can then increase the speed until you hit errors. When this happens, you can increase Vdimm, SB and NB volts in sensible increments until you eradicate the errors. I found it better to use MemTest than to run in windows as it gets crazy when the system crashes and you run the risk of corrupting the registry and/or screwing the HDD. I don't think I've missed too much, this is how I did it. I'm sure some of the others on here will add to this method with ideas that they have tried. I hit 4.0Ghz and 1300Mhz RAM but I didn't want to be pushing it that hard 24/7. I know a lot of the guys on here have achieved much faster results on Kayl/Vapochill etc but I didn't go down that route. I had it running at 3.6Ghz and 1200Mhz most of the time. |

Well, not totally sure what doesnt work yet, but got my power supply today, and initially loaded the system as Vcore 1.3125 Mem Volt 2.1 Ai Tuning Manual Nvidia GPU EX Disabled Link Boost Disabled SLI Ready Memory Disabled FSB Unlinked FSB QDR 1333 Actual FSB 1333 Mem DDR 1066 Actual Mem 1066 5-5-5-15 2t (just 2gb loaded for now) And though it seemed OK, when I went to load windows it blue screened. I defaulted everything back to auto (ram running at 800 now) and things seem ok, windows is loading at least. Running BIOS 1305 - came with 1205 on the mobo. |

Everything at Auto for now, figure let it burn in a bit, or something. Still not the most stable machine I have delt with even at auto though. couple blue screens, and some of my reboots come back with no video. I have to actually pull the power cord to get it to come back. Also, had one hard lock up, had screen, but nothing would work to release it. Think some of my issues are this darn Razer Death Adder mouse though. of all the things that caused me grief on this project, that mouse has been about the most problematic. I ought to just uninstall it until I get a better idea of how things are. This Coolermaster stacker case stays extremely cool. The rear is of course hot, from the video, but the top exhaust, as well as the front of the machine are actually cold to the touch. Here is some of my data from PC Probe II Vcore 1.34 3.3 volts 3.25 5 volts 4.95 12 volts 11.78 SB Core 1.52 CPU Vtt 1.25 DDR2 Term .93 NB Core 1.23 Memory 1.89 CPU 35 Degrees MB 38 Degrees OPT1 (video) 31 degrees Opt2 (Processor)30 degrees Opt3 (Hard Drives) 29 Degrees Fans 1250 RPM |
