Winter is truly here in Brisbane Australia tonight Normal night time room ambients = 25-30C Tonight room ambients = 14-18C ![]() Corsair Nautilus 500 external water cooling gets a reversible modification. At first I tried to replace the stock 120x25mm 44cfm fan, but it uses very small Torx screws to hold the fan in place so couldn't replace the fan. So I removed the entire lid, grabbed one of my Thermochill HE120.3 single 120mm fan shrouds and a Spire 120x25mm 96cfm fan and sat it on the radiator itself ![]() This is how it turned out and the Asus P5K Deluxe setup. ![]() ![]() ![]() Resulted in low 30-40ish idle coretemps in windows for the whole bench session ![]() Just doing some super pi runs for now. Will try wprime as well if I'm lucky to get similar cold ambient temps tomorrow ![]() System
@3600Mhz ![]() @3904Mhz at 1.60v bios set ![]() @3936Mhz at 1.6375v bios set ![]() @3952Mhz at 1.6375v bios set ![]() ![]() @3977Mhz at 1.6375v bios set Everest Bandwidth only ![]() @4002.6Mhz at 1.6375v bios set ![]() @4009Mhz at 1.65v bios set cpuz validation ![]() I had 4021Mhz but system rebooted before i could save cpuz validation ![]() But blood fast Super Pi 32M times for a Quad core kentsfield B3 step cpu considering they're slower clock for clock then Core 2 duo dual core B2 stepping cpus for single instance Super Pi ![]() . |

Very nice quad clocks there Eva, lower ambient really came in handy What were your loaded temps at 1.65v (bios) with the Nautilus? Was there any improvement with the modifications you made with the additional Spire fan on the radiator? It's also interesting to see that ES Samples are being consistently slower clock for clock than retails, I wonder if this is an intentional move by Intel. Any plans in acquiring a G0 stepping quad soon? |

Well I didn't really pay attention to loaded temps at the high end but i would suspect mid to high 60-70C. At 1.65v was enough for loading cpuz and saving validation hardly any load would of could from that hehe And no it ain't ES slower clock for clock but all B3 stepping kentsfield are slower clock for clock than B2 stepping core2 duo. For single instance super pi the order from faster to slowest clock for clock is B2 > B3 > B1 (core 2 duo) > B1 (kenstfield ES) B2 = retail core 2 duo B3 = retail or ES kentsfield B1 = ES core 2 duo or kentsfield ES early samples) G0 steppings are tempting but it's very close to July so not sure about G0 ES cpus |

#1 - Nice fan mount on skewers ![]() #2 - Nice clocks #3 - Why didnt you use F7 to save validation? I know its more risk of not working, but you can back it up with a real save if it remains stable #4 - Are you sure load temps at those volts weren't more like 80-85C in coretemp? Mine certainly are using G4 |

T_M, load temps for single pi or loading cpuz aren't like small ffts load hehe I hit F7 for 4002mhz validation, but nothing in my directory, so had to reboot and get the validation again heh. Fan mount on take away chop sticks sawn off at one end.. not skewers ![]() Well not as cold as last night but couldn't wait until 2AM - 5AM for colder temps ![]() Wprime 32M @3977Mhz at 1.6375v bios Managed to pull off wprime 32M @3977Mhz - took three runs to get it to pass hehe ![]() Everest Bandwidth at those clocks ![]() Wprime 32M + 1024M @3920Mhz at 1.6375v bios set ![]() Trying 1024M higher but errors crop up all over the place in wprime right now |
