Well I couldn't help myself and purchased a second hand E6700 L629B079 batch dated cpu I'm very happy to see the shape of the IHS is similar to my X6800 with the 4 corners stamped a bit lower than the inner IHS area. It should have decent temps I hope ![]() E6700 L629B079 purchased 2nd hand from OCAU member Ka0sX Compared to my X6800's similar shaped IHS |

Started testing this new E6700 L629B079 and probably not as good as any of my other core2 cpus needing 0.07v to 0.10v more vcore to load into memtest86+/winxp pro sp2 @3600Mhz but this cpu is going on Kayl Black FrozenSS later on anyway. From my previous testing, I've found core2 cpus need ~0.05+ vcore more for orthos/prime stability then what vcore is required to be memtest86+ stable. So I estimate this L629B079 probably needs at least 1.45v vcore to hit 3600Mhz in windows. Let's see what it takes to hit my ideal cpu clock speed of 3600Mhz. System:
E6700 L629B079 B2 Retail The E6700 L629B079 sSpec is a SL9S7 http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL9S7
Orthos small FFTs load ![]() Post load idle ![]() Very cool running cpu this E6700 L629B079 although it needs more vcore than my other cpus. This E6700 L629B079 has similar temperature characteristics like my Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 - very low temps under load at 3600Mhz clock speeds. I guess the similar IHS design on both cpus accounts for this ??? @3729Mhz at 1.592v Orthos small ffts load temp = 60C coretemp reported ![]() Post load idle temp ![]() My other core2 cpus seem to be better and would be around 3830-3950mhz at such vcore. Interesting in bios if I enable PECI (Platform Environmental Interface Control), the bios temps drop my 10C and AI booster windows reported temps drop by 10C too but coretemp still reports same idle and load temps. |

Compared to my other core2 cpus: E6700 L629B079 B2 Retail - 3600Mhz takes 1.4v to pass memtest86+ and 1.425v to load winxp pro sp2 - 3600Mhz takes 1.480-1.488v for orthos/prime stable E6700 QPGA B1 ES - 3600Mhz takes 1.30v to pass memtest86+ and 1.325v to load winxp pro sp2 - 3600Mhz takes 1.35 to 1.38v for orthos/prime stable - 4001Mhz @1.66v max Super Pi 32M X6800 L627A872 B2 Retail - 3600Mhz takes 1.35v to pass memtest86+ and 1.3625v to load winxp pro sp2 - 3600Mhz takes 1.37 to 1.39v for orthos/prime stable - 4092Mhz @1.65v max Super Pi 32M E6600 QPGE B1 ES - 3600Mhz takes 1.35v to pass memtest86+ and 1.3625v to load winxp pro sp2 - 3600Mhz takes 1.36 to 1.40v for orthos/prime stable - 4043Mhz @1.64v max Super Pi 32M |

Looks like this E6700 L629B079 will fall short of the 4Ghz mark on water cooling. Only managed single Super Pi 32M @3900Mhz at 1.672v but idle and load temps are very cool! I ran Super Pi 1M, 4M, 8M, and 32M with 4x cpuz windows open + coretemp + memset and AI booster applications opened at the same time and took screen captures at the during and after each run (except for 1M). @3900Mhz at 1.672v Super Pi 1M ![]() Super Pi 4M ![]() ![]() Super Pi 8M ![]() ![]() Super Pi 32M ![]() ![]() Times are alot slower due to running 1:1 instead of 2:3 etc and all the other apps open simultaneously though. |

Well best I can do for sub 3600mhz 32M challenge with this E6700 L629B079 on P5B Deluxe - Team 6400C3 doesn't like tRAS of 4 or too tight sub timings it seems ![]() on dirty WinXP Pro SP2.. has .Net framework etc installed.. might need a clean windows install later |

There's nothing like a fresh windows install to speed up Super Pi ![]() Swapped over to my old trust 2GB G.Skill 6400PHU HZ Micron D9GMH 629 batch which handles tighter sub timings and tRAS than my 2GB Team 6400C3. Managed to pull off 13m 26s 859ms at 3599.8Mhz clocked 32M time with just 9x400FSB 4:5 500mhz 4-4-3-4 (no maxmem tweak) beating my Team 6400C3 time @9x398FSB 2:3 with 597mhz 5-4-4-5 clocked memory on dirty windows install (with maxmem tweak) ![]() G.Skill 6400PHU HZ Micron D9GMH 629 without maxmem tweak (fresh windows install) ![]() vs Team 6400C3 Micron D9GMH with maxmem tweak (dirty windows install include .net framework etc) ![]() |

Still with my trusty Gskill 6400 HZ D9GMH 629 batch managed new personal best 32M times for low clock challenge @3600mhz (beat old PB by 3 seconds!) and 3176mhz (sub 15min mark) ![]() Both done at 2.50v vdimm via Hipro Maximizer ![]() ![]() ![]() Fresh windows install with nothing installed except Super Pi v1.5 (all my previous benchies have full suite of apps installed futuremark apps/.net framework etc etc). |
