Cool E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Recieved my E8500 cpus from Auspcmarket.com.au

E8500
Q740A493T
Pack Date 12/19/07
2L7****
**0909 & **1808

I did initial first cpu test on P5K3 Deluxe. But I moved my E8500 **1808 over to Blitz Formula and flashed to 1205 bios as the P5K3 Deluxe 0810 bios seems to not fully support E8500 - vcore above 1.496v was flaky only managing 4655Mhz in Memtest86+ v1.70. So moving onto my favourite Intel P35 chipset board, Asus Blitz Formula

On P5K3 Deluxe this E8500 did

Memtest86+ v1.70 testing
  • Coretemp 0.96 reported VID = 1.05v but P5K3 Deluxe 0810 bios AUTO vcore = 1.208-1.216v which is around 1.225v so probably VID real = 1.225v
  • Max FSB on CPU PLL 1.5V = ~535FSB
  • 4208Mhz at 1.280v (1.2875v bios)
  • 4304Mhz at 1.304v (1.3125v bios)
  • 4353Mhz at 1.336v (1.3375v bios)
  • 4408Mhz at 1.368v (1.3750v bios)
  • 4655Mhz at 1.496v (1.5000v bios)

Windows XP SP2 testing, I set vcore to 1.400v in bios and just wanted to see how far I can clock this E8500 with 1.400v vcore idle/1.392v load.

Re: E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Now on Asus Blitz Formula.....

System
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Q740A493T 2L7**** / **1808
  • CPU Cooling: Dtek Fuzion Rad Tower Box
  • Asus Blitz Formula 1205 bios
  • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
  • 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 dual channel kit (white dimm slots)
  • Memory cooling: 120x25mm Thermaltake 81cfm fan
  • 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII
  • Pioneer DVD-RW
  • 620W Corsair HX620 PSU supplied by Corsair
  • WinXP Pro SP2 Nlite Fully Updated.

Room temp: 30.4C to 33.8C

4000Mhz - 9.5x421FSB at 1.3375v bios (1.304v windows load)

Interesting, Coretemp 0.96 on Blitz Formula reports different VID from Coretemp 0.96 on P5K3 Deluxe = 1.1125v vs 1.05v. Could be due to Blitz Formula 1205 supporting E8500 better than P5K3 Deluxe 0810 which doesn't support E8500 officially ?

This E8500 with AUTO vcore on:
  • Asus Blitz Formula 1205 = AUTO vcore = ~1.18v
  • Asus P5K3 Deluxe 0810 = AUTO vcore = ~1.208v to 1.216v

Well finishing up testing of first E8500, seems this first E8500 Q740A493T is topping out around 4776Mhz at 1.6375v bios (1.6v idle/1.592v load) for max CPUZ Validation and around 4609-4655Mhz at 1.592v load for dual systool 32M Pi test runs. But 4000Mhz at 1.304v Prime95 easy

Testing 2nd E8500 Q740A493T **0909, slightly better with 4000Mhz at 1.28v Prime95. Same reported Coretemp 0.96 VID of 1.1125v but AUTO vcore for this cpu is slightly higher than 1st E8500, 1.192v vs 1.186v. Seems 2nd E8500, core2 runs ~12C cooler than core1 heh.

Re: E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Seems my 2nd E8500 Q740A493T **0909, has better max FSB as well ~10-15FSB better. Memtest86 bootable at 550FSB but still playing with voltages to stabilise it. But still this is best FSB cpu I have had the pleasure to play with for air/water cooling!

Re: E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Really liking this 2nd E8500 **0909 cpu just has that little bit extra over my 1st E8500 in nearly all departments, higher FSB 540-555FSB vs 535FSB, lower vcore for 4000Mhz at 1.28v vs 1.304v and now more stable 4.5Ghz at 1.504v load/1.512v idle.

Wprime v1.55 32M and 1024M @4503Mhz 1.512v idle/1.504v load

Systool Dual 32M PI @4503Mhz 1.512v idle/1.504v load

SetFSB my way to 4602Mhz at 1.504v load for Wprime v1.55 32M!

Looks like my 1st E8500 will be up forsale soon

Well got tired of testing the E8500 cpu limits with loose 5-5-5-15 memory timings, so thought I'd see how I go with some higher and tighter memory clocks

All done with 1.575v bios set vcore (1.544v idle).

CPUZ Validation @4651Mhz - 8.5 x 547FSB

Super Pi 1M = 10.000s exactly @4618Mhz - 8.5 x 543FSB

Super Pi 1M = 9.953s @4638Mhz - 8.5 x 545FSB

Super Pi 32M = 10m 13.625s @4547Mhz - 8.5 x 535FSB

This set of 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 didn't like 32M with tigher than tRAS 9 much, so might try a different set later. But 32M time seems a bit slow heh.

Wprime v1.55 32M & 1024M @4547Mhz - 8.5 x 535FSB

Re: E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Finally, Super Pi 32M under 10min.. took some extra cpu mhz to do due to low cpu FSB only @496FSB.

All runs below done with 1.68125v bios set (1.648v idle / 1.640v load)

CPUZ Validation @4851Mhz at 1.648v idle

Super Pi 1M @4745Mhz at 1.648v idle

Super Pi 32M @4712Mhz at 1.648v idle

Re: E8500 Retail Q740A493T + Asus Blitz Formula 1205

Loosened memory timings and set vcore to 1.70v bios (1.664v idle) and using setFSB see how far I can get E8500 for max cpuz validation. Seems got to 4942Mhz before it froze, the last saved cpuz validation was at 4896Mhz
