Time for some 'reality' with full-on PC FPS game benchmarks.
I am running this on the system you see in my signature for PC1 & using HOCbench latest benchmarking programs for current popular FPS games.

I have COD2 with latest patch, but the new v1.0.0.1 of this latest benchmark for this game does not give me a score ? ? I have posted a comment about this on HOCbench forums.

There is also a new benchmark for HL2-episode one, which I will post soon.

"Roadside" has also updated the Q4 benchmark to v1.5beta, but again I still had problem running it.

However, I was able to run Prey with latest patch - 1.3 and the newest HOCbenchmark for this.

2 resolutions are used by me in all the HOCbench runs.

1. 1280x1024

2. 2048x1536

Maximum graphic detail is enabled & 16x AF, 4 x AA in all runs.
No background processes were disabled on my daily use of this PC, so this gives and even more realistic result. 42 total running.

First with stock 8800GTX & 97.92 driver.


2nd - 8800GTX @ 660 / 1005 or (approx 10% O/C)


Results are as expected with a 10% O/C on vga.

As soon as I can sort out the problems with COD2 & Q4, I will post results with exactly the same resolution, graphic quality & AF + AA as the Prey benchmark

Source engine still good fun to play with...

IMHO these benchies are a better indication of how 'good' a card actually is

Agreed! At least these tell you exactly how well a game will perform on your hardware rather than giving you some arbitrary score. Installing my games now and I'll give these a go. I only have HL2 EP1 and Quake4 though.

Thats an excellent playable FPsecond speed there m8, my 8800GTX is overkill...

Yeh it sure is! It has a lot to do with the HL2 engine tho, one of the most efficient, fastest and nicest looking engines ever IMO. Note that all settings are maxxed out too.

Which is more than I can say for STALKER, the engine is a POS to say the least.

Still trying to get the Quake4 benchie running, it dosent seem to like my rig/setup. I kick it off but it dosent run the demo it just sits there waiting for me to load a saved game or something.

Its nice for the dev. to have the money for that source engine...Yep, agree on the STALKER engine, but nonetheless an addictive game that is turning out for me atm.
