what difference did you see in temps ?
Great job by the way, but can you really say its worth the effort ?

The difference was rather modest, with only a 1-2C drop in load temps. Every little bit helps though and with other heat sinks this may vary.

Firstly thanks . If you're interested in getting absolutely the most out of you heat sink I'd say it's worth it but for general use, maybe not. That said though if you're running 24/7 overclocks then cooler is always better.

It's a personal decision I suppose, I'll be lapping all of my heat sinks and CPUs from now on

Once the TIM is cured the temps could drop even further, lapping is always worth the effort for your own stuff IMHO

Is it okay to use methylated spirits for cleaning the base of the heatsink and also on the cpu ihs as well?

Yes it is fine, providing it is >96% Ethanol based. It is what I normally also use, not as good as say ArtiClean, but it does the job when it's all that you have around the house
