| First run with Kayl's Rev2 CPU Pot + 6Kg DICE
I finally got everything together today for my first run with Kayl's rev2 CPU pot after a false start last time trying to use software to monitor temps Here is the cpu pot that came in the mail a week or two back from Kayl. The base of this unit is really heavy...theres a LOT of copper to these things...and Im really happy with the finish quality of the pot and the base. For those of you that havent read the other threads around the place, the new revision has a series of holes drilled into the base to aid in getting the cold right down where the action is. ![]() So after a bit of prep work - a few layers of insulation, temp probe, lots of paper towelling, 120mm fans and a few kilos of DICE from BOC I was all ready to go with the first few runs to test it out. ![]() First CPU out of the blocks was my E6850. This chip had maxed out at 4662Mhz (9x518) in this same config (1.67V real on my P5K Deluxe) under my phase unit so I was hoping to get a bit more out of it with the dice pot. Ended up getting a validation at 5004Mhz (9x556) and was able to do a wprime1024 run @ 4860Mhz so I was really happy with the gains over the SS unit ![]() ![]() Second CPU that I swapped in was my Q6600. This chip has done really well under the phase unit so I was hoping for big things, but only managed to get another 10FSB out of it with DICE. I suspect its FSB limited at around that mark and wont score much more no matter how cold I can get it. ![]() All up it was a good session and Im really happy with the CPU pot. The quad absolutely drank the DICE compared with the E6850 especially with multithreaded apps like the 1024Mb run on Wprime. Thanks to kayl for the cpu pot to play with and pro for his help with insulation and advice! Next up are some adventures with the new gpu pots that I picked up at the same time, on both XF 2900XTs and 3870s. Im looking forward to it...just need a little help from pro and kayl with video card insulation and getting serious volts into them ![]() |

The Q6600 is L724A828, one of the first G0s I could find Air - never tried Water (D-Tek/Triple Rad) - 8x475FSB (9x445 clocks) SS - 9x492 Dice - 9x500 I was in a bit of a hurry to get through both CPUs last night so I didnt play around much with max FSBs but I'll give it a shot next time...if I havent had to sell it to fund a Yorky purchase |

Yorkies ![]() Yeah seems like FSB limited there on that one.. try applying some more CPU PLL volts to see how it goes .. I just swapped my E6850 L720A489 out of my Blitz Formula so to try my Q6600 L725A903 on this board for the first time (preparation for Blitz Formula phase change later) So will be playing with CPU PLL volts as well. Also play with NB and CPU reference voltage options as well i.e 0.67x and 0.635x respectively or whatever is highest on P5K Deluxe (can't remember hehe). |

thanks guys, having so many patient experienced guys here to bug has been so helpful eva, Ive pretty much maxxed out everything to get those clocks as far as volts go. The P5K Dlx tops out at 1.7V CPU and I think thats where its getting left hungry. Although thinking about it I may not have played with the nb and cpu reference options so I'll give that a shot next time...cheers My next purchase will be a Max Formula board, or ideally the Max Extreme and jump into DDR3 if I can justify it to myself as an 'investment' |
