Count me into the club. Got a genuine reference MSI board off of a forum and so far it is clocking nicely. I don't think I'll be able to reach the golden 1000/1200 as the memory artifacts pretty badly above 1150, and 1000 core won't go in Kombustor even with 1.275v. So 950/1150 1.225v for 24/7 use seems pretty sweet.

i have a HD5850 - asus branded - but reference design.

The fan on my card seems (to me) to act strangely - it will spin at <300rpm until temps reach 85c or so - then it will spin up to a very high speed till the temps come back to "normal"

after this the fan will idle at ~1500rpm until there is a high load, where the fan will go slow (again <300rpm) until hot and then it seems fine after this.

Ive tried custom fan profiles, both software and bios ones and doesn't change anything.

Additionally - whilst the fan is at ~300rpm, i can set the fan speed to 100% and nothing will change.


Im running the 10.x drivers atm (early release 10.5s) but have run the 10/2s also with the same issue.

this isnt affecting the performance of the card as far as i know - but its annoying me somewhat and when the fan is at ~300rpm, its annoying as you can here the pwm of the fan kicking in and out.

the card was bought second hand from OCAU, but the previous owner had 2 cards, i pm'd him and he said that his other card did the same thing also.

just wondering if this is a common thing/if there is any fix of any kind?
