Following OCAU's example, starting an owners club thread for HD5850, HD5870, and HD5970 video cards, so we can discuss and post results etc ![]() Thanks to OCAU/i4memory forum member Frenchlick, I'm now a proud owner of 3x Sapphire HD5870 video graphics cards for tri-crossfire fun! Frenchlick was kind enough to already have flashed the HD5870s to Asus bios for higher CCC slider limits AT 1200/1400. I skipped single HD5870 tests, to start with 2x HD5870 CF first to see how things go ![]() ![]() Downloaded and installed MSI Afterburner v1.41. Default skin is way too desktop real estate consuming so installed theGryphon's Kompakt and Kompakter skins ![]() Default Green skin ![]() Blue skin ![]() Red skin ![]() Now the Kompakt and Kompakter skins ![]() ![]() My fav is Blue Kompakter with attached and detached monitoring display ![]() Also attached a copy of my Asus HD5870 unlocked bios which Frenchlick already flashed my Sapphire HD5870 to. |

Took some photos of 2x HD5870 CF setup on Asus P6T6 WS Revolution (supports 3x PCI-E x16 slots for PCI-E #1, #3 and #5 slots). I grabbed my DFI UT X58-T3EH8's longer flexible Crossfire connector bridges as DFI UT X58-T3EH8 has double slot spacing for CF. Wasn't sure if I need both bridges for 2x HD5870 CF as there wasn't any difference in scores really for 1x vs 2x bridges I don't think. Last photo compares the longer crossfire connector bridge with the standard one. ![]() ![]() System:
Stock cpu and gpu run - W3570 @3.2Ghz with 2x HD5870 CF @850/1200. No LOD used to 3d2k1 yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kind of cpu limited @3.2Ghz, so clock W3570 to an easy 4614Mhz to see how it scales with a decent cpu overclock No LOD used to 3d2k1 yet.![]() ![]() ![]() More results to follow... Update: First Vantage run @ 4614Mhz H20 cooled + 2x HD5870 @935/1250 stock volts ![]() Starting to push the clocks on 2x HD5870 in Vantage for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. 100% fan speed voltages and clocks set in MSI Afterburner v1.41:
@985/1263 noticed that part way into Vantage bench, GPU2's fan speed drops out of 100% speed to 50% fan speed = end result GPU2 is 9C hotter at 63C peak versus GPU1 at 54C peak temps. 3Dmark Vantage = 27,045 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=1665802 |

Now to see how 3x HD5870 Tri-Crossfire does - my first time using triple GPUs of any kind (ATI or Nvidia). Tight fit there with the HD5870s slotted into PCI-E x16 #1 + #3 + #5 slots. ![]() ![]() Okay first Tri-CrossfireX runs with 3x HD5870 flashed to Asus bioses at stock 850/1200 speeds. I did try Vantage run with them at stock 850/1200 and overclocked at 985/1263 but got much lower GT 1 - Jane Nash score in the low 61-62fps vs my 2x HD5870 run with GT 1 - Jane Nash in the 71-77fps ???. 3dmark05 had virtually same score as 2x HD5870 ???? System:
3x GPU = Win 7 Ultimate 64bit 2x GPU = WinXP Pro SP3 for all except Vantage benchmark Low GT1 3D Vantage @850/1200 with 3x GPU = 24,397 vs 2x GPU = 25,115 ![]() Very easy breach of 32K @850/1200 for 3dmark06 3x GPU = 32,296 vs 2x GPU = 31,676 ![]() 3Dmark05 - 3x GPU 40,214 vs 2x GPU 40,215 ?? Seems to be low GT1. ![]() 3Dmark2003 - nice boost 3x GPU = 158,942 VS 2x GPU = 130,936 |

Trying an earlier 9.11 beta 5 driver for hemlock November 11th driver for 3x HD5870 tri-crossfireX and seems better for 3dvantage and 3dmark05 but lower scores in 3dmark2003. Only downside is this driver doesn't work with MSI Afterburner 1.41 - hitting apply setting = blank screen LOL. Also these drivers lowered default voltage for 1st hd5870 card from 1.162v to 1.149v so will limit max GPU clock to whatever your cards can handle at 1.149v to 1.162v which for me seems to be around 950/1250 for 9.11 beta 5 drivers. 3d Vantage @850/1200 vs @950/1250 ![]() 3dmark06 @850/1200 ![]() 3dmark05 @850/1200 ![]() 3dmark2003 @850/1200 ![]() Pushed W3570 a bit higher at 27x173bclk for 34,904 - compare url |

These new 9.12 beta (8.14.10.0716) drivers are bloody awesome for 3x HD5870 Tri-CrossfireX - new personal best scores all round for me. Even managed to squeeze out a bit more on my W3570 using 29x multi instead of 27x multi and jump in vcore from 4614mhz at 1.448v to 4695mhz 1.520v. System:
3x HD5870 @990/1275 at 1.262v
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still on leaked 9.12 8.14.10.0716 beta drivers. Tried higher cpu clock but W3570 seems to hang in CPU tests at 4723Mhz for Vantage but fine for 4753Mhz 3dmark05 at least (max 3dmark05 benched on W3570 HT On H20 is 4803Mhz). My first bench with GPU clocked at 1000Mhz @1000/1275 ![]()

Hey there mate, not sure if your Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X use reference bios ??? So risky using Asus HD5870 bios ? I'll upload the bios as an attachment to this post. As always, flash at your own risk Congrats on 5970 as well, so you going to do 5970 + hd5870 + HD5870 CF ? Haven't tried vantage yet for win7 64bit, starting with XP first |
