New 24/7 work rig - DFI UT X58-T3EH8 + Lian Li PC-7FNWX USB3.0

While I bench and test the latest gear, I always kept to my very old 24/7 main work rig but it's time to upgrade the 24/7 main work with more up to date gear and finally after many years a new pc case - Lian Li PC-7FNWX with USB3.0 ports and side window.

Old 24/7 main work rig ~6yrs old now:
  • Pentium 550 3.4Ghz Prescott
  • DFI 875P-T motherboard
  • Gecube 9800Pro Extreme PCI
  • 1GB Kingston KHX3200 Winbond BH-5
  • Pioneer DVD-RW IDE
  • 80GB WD IDE

Bought a 2nd hand Sapphire HD5970 OC Edition video card off gmeup on OCAU forums for AUD$30 less than the average Nvidia GTX 480 asking price!

Sapphire HD5870 Tri-Crossfire !

Thanks to OCAU/i4memory forum member Frenchlick, I'm now a proud owner of 3x Sapphire HD5870 video graphics cards for tri-crossfire fun!

Sapphire HD5870s were shipped via TNT as is with sapphire boxes themselves! Luckily, physical inspection looks fine and despite a few missing accesories, the price was a bargain at AUD$1,500 for tri-cf fun. Thanks Darren/Frenchlick

Amaze HD4890 & SNT 1042SS Backplane

Purchased some new hardware which arrived today. My first HD4890 video card, an Amaze 1GB 4890-DT 1024D5 which seems to have a different cooler than the one pictured on their web site.

Picked up a 4x 2.5" SATA/SAS SNT 1042SS 5.25" bay backplane for housing 4x 2.5" SATA/SAS drives along with a pair of 2x 4pin molex to PCI-E 8pin adaptors for my older power suplies which lack PCI-E 8pin connectors.

I seem to have messed up calibration of my LCD monitors,...
