Prime95 v25.6 Load and Post Load Idle Temps
Seems Smart Guardian app's cpu temp is under reporting cpu temps compared to RealTemp 2.90RC3 and CoreTemp 0.99.3.
System specs- Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
- Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit
- DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51
- 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
- 2x1GB Corsair TW3X2G2133C9DF Dominator 9-9-9-24 at 2.0v rated (Samsung ICs)
- 750GB Samsung HD753LJ
- Pioneer DVD-RW
- 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
- WinXP Pro SP3 nLite fully updated
Room Temp: 29.8C
- Core i7 920 @20x 133BCLK = 2660Mhz at Vcore = AUTO = 1.16 in bios
- MEM Clock = 133Mhz x 8 = DDR3-1067Mhz 9-9-9-24 at 1.605v
- Load CPU = 43C, SYSTEM = 53C, CHIPSET = 43C
- Post Load Idle CPU = 35C, SYSTEM = 37C, CHIPSET = 41C
- RealTemp 2.90RC3 CPU Load Temp = 55-57C
- NB passively cooled (SYSTEM temps)
- Core i7 920 @19x 201BLCK = 3816Mhz at Vcore = 1.25 = 1.26v in bios
- MEM Clock = 201Mhz x 10 = DDR3-2008Mhz at 1.68v bios
- Load CPU = 54C, SYSTEM = 70C, CHIPSET = 46C
- Post Load Idle CPU = 42C, SYSTEM = 57C, CHIPSET = 42C
- RealTemp 2.90RC3 CPU Load Temp = 70-73C
- NB passively cooled (SYSTEM temps)

The higher the memory clock, the more CPU VTT voltage is needed to stabilise the system. Higher CPU VTT, also increased SYSTEM temps I think. For Prime95 @DDR3-2008Mhz, it needed CPU VTT = 1.44v, but for single threaded benchmarks like Super Pi 32M, Everest and Sandra, I could lower CPU VTT voltage from 1.44v to 1.36v in bios.
Update: Added a fan over NB heatsink and dropped SYSTEM (and PWM) temps at idle from 57C to 44C and load temps from 70C to 55C for SYSTEM and 46C to 39C for CHIPSET temps
It does seem the NB heatsink has a heatpipe that extends to the mosfet heatsink from these 2 photos of the cpu socket area -
side view and
top view. Hence, adding fan over NB helped reduce temps for both SYSTEM and CHIPSET temps in Smart Guardian.
